  • I am an integrative and holistic practitioner. I draw on many approaches offering what can best support my client’s work in that moment.
  • The core qualities of acceptance, compassion, empathy and congruence are the foundation of my work. I offer a relationship where trust can arise aiming for each client to grow their self confidence, self esteem, inner resources and strengths.
  • I have also worked for 25 years as a massage therapist. This has given me deep understanding of how the body responds to the sort of stresses that bring people into therapy.
  • For anything I might offer in therapy, it is always the clients choice to accept or not. I can offer art, movement , sound etc.

Practice description

  • I know from my own life how much courage it takes for a person to decide to try therapy.
  • The beginning part of counselling is so important for the feelings of  support, sharing and trust to arise for the client. My work is to be present and aware and skillfully develop understanding of my clients world.
  • Many different circumstances bring a person to start therapy and sometimes it isn't so clear. A profound sense of unhappiness may be the starting point. Whatever the beginning the work will be  to explore together and find the best ways to bring about the arising of the client's own insights.
  • Along with our common humanity we are all unique people.I hold this awareness in my work.
  • I work holistically - feelings, thoughts, senses, mind, physicality, culture, habits, family history and circumstance are all influencing every moment. Some of the therapy can explore the influences of some of these things .
  • I have additional skills from massage and groupwork. I have taught anxiety management, stress management and relaxation for 20 years and the breathwork and other exercises can be very helpful for managing strong difficult feelings. I can also teach mindfulness .
  • I am qualified in trauma informed therapy .
  • I have worked for a cancer support centre in Edinburgh as a therapist for 9 years and have a lot of experience working with people facing this kind of stress.
  • I have worked with people of diverse cultures since 1990 .I  have a depth of understanding about the ways culture affects values, beliefs and expression of feelings.

Supervisor - Edinburgh

Edinburgh EH3
07914601761
Sessions from £55.00

Features

  • Flexible hours available

Availability

I work online with Zoom and in person in Central Edinburgh and my hours are flexible. I currently have spaces in my practice for new supervisees.

Generally sessions are 1.5 hours unless a supervisee's case load is very small.

About me and my therapy practice

I have worked for 25 years supervising people in many diverse settings including:

  • Community education, social work and counselling students, on their courses and in their work placements.
  • Staff teams and volunteers in the 3rd sector.
  • Counsellors.

I work using a collaborative approach with my supervisees. My aim to is offer a space that is safe and sustaining, enabling the supervisee's confidence to grow and their skills and sense of  competence to to develop.

I am trained both in the Shohet and Hawkins 7 eye model and as an integrative creative arts supervisor.

I work using the BACP ethical guidelines framework as the guide for any difficult arising considerations.

My intention for each supervisee is to create sessions that strengthen their skills, support their wisdom, encourage their professional development, offer knowledge when helpful and bring to awareness anything they may be overlooking.

Practice description

My approach is welcoming and relaxed.

I have worked supporting people as a massage therapist and counsellor since 1997 and also run many groups for people experiencing anxiety, depression, serious health diagnoses such as cancer, and complex grief.

My committment in my work as a supervisor is to offer my best relationship skills of warmth, integrity, gentle humour when useful, professional knowledge, encouragement and the ability to have an overview and see any potential arising ethical areas that need focus.

I am skilled and trained to offer creative arts ways to support  supervisees in their supervision. This is a rich area for enabling exploration of aspects of the counselling work with a new way of narration that often leads to a profound and fresh way of understanding things. This can include:

- Sandtrays

- Colour, line and shape

- Voice and sound

- Drama therapy

- Movement

- Storymaking

- Mixed media collage art-paint, fabric scraps, pictures, text etc

Any of these art approaches would be offered if thought to be a helpful tool for exploration and are of course optional.

My first session

I can offer a free 30 minute Zoom meeting to connect and explore what a supervisee is looking for in their supervision. This is an opportunity to outline how I work, to answer any questions and to go over the contract we would work with.

The fee is also decided in this session if we decide to work together. It is £55 for an hour/£75 for the usual 90 mins sessions. I do have a few concessionary spaces, but cannot guarantee they will be available due to demand.
