About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm Jackie, a qualified therapeutic counsellor with a background in psychology. If you're experiencing disruptive thoughts, painful feelings, personal or professional challenges, I'm here to support you. Together we'll work to make sense of your situation and explore how you can start to feel more at ease with yourself and move towards a more authentic way of living.
I am a compassionate, warm, and understanding counsellor, accepting of you for who you are, listening without judgement and working with whatever you need to bring to your sessions. We can sometimes be left feeling 'stuck' and unable to make sense of what is happening or needs to happen, so together we will explore how to unravel what can often feel really messy and begin to tease apart the tangles that life throws at us. We'll work to gain a deeper understanding and find meaning in what is troubling you and in doing so I'll encourage you to consider what feels right for you should you choose to work towards making changes in your life.
I offer face-to-face or online sessions, providing you with a safe and comfortable space for us to work together, whether as a single/one-at-a-time session, or multiple sessions over time.
Practice description
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have an MSc in Organisational Psychology. This enables me to bring evidence-based theory, practice, and experience to my therapeutic approach. I regularly engage in learning opportunities to enhance the services I am able to provide. I bring extensive experience in working with adults from all backgrounds and all ages. I also have extensive experience working with personnel from the emergency services including the police and the armed forces both serving and veterans.
At the root of my therapeutic approach, is humanistic counseling which means you are at the heart of our therapeutic relationship. I will not attempt to lead or direct you but will work with you to understand your issues and support you in working towards any changes or goals you may decide to undertake.
I’m experienced in working with adults of all ages from different backgrounds, with different experiences, both neurodiverse and neurotypical. All of us can experience challenges at any time in our lives and seeking help is the first step to finding peace and resolution. Each session is unique, just like you - we work with what is important to you and at your pace. In my practice, I utilize both humanistic counselling and outcome-focused therapy, often integrating both into our agreed objectives. I am also skilled in supporting clients to explore personality/behavioural preferences/tendencies that can impact both working and personal relationships.
I have experience working with a wide variety of issues such as: low mood, low self-esteem/self-worth, lack of confidence, anxiety, overthinking, depression, trauma, childhood adversity, bereavement, relationship problems (personal, work, and family), setting boundaries (self and others), self-identity (authenticity), carer responsibilities, and stress, to name just a few.
My first session
I work with adults of all ages just like you who at any time are experiencing difficulties that often disrupt and disturb well-being, relationships, work, leisure, and life in general.
I offer a free half-hour introductory session where we can chat about your needs and explore if working with me feels right for you. Counselling needs to be a supportive and effective relationship and so it needs to feel right. Having the opportunity to talk it through before you commit will ensure you are making the best choice for you based on what you need.
In our first counseling session, we will get to know each other, start to build our therapeutic relationship, and begin to explore your aims in therapy with what you are bringing to the session.
