About me and my therapy practice
For me psychotherapy is an empowerment process where the therapist is not an expert on you but someone to work with you to seek deeper understanding of your way of being. I offer a confidential and non-judgemental space to explore this. I actively listen to the issues you bring and explore with you their effect and your responses. Sometimes as survivors of life we can develop coping strategies which may become redundant and hinder coping at later times. I am of the opinion that the success of therapy is wholly dependent on the quality of the therapeutic relationship so I offer a reduced fee for the first session so that we can see whether we both feel that we can work together.
Therapy can sound daunting when juggling pressures of work and social life. Navigating and maintaining a professional or social media profile within a busy life is challenging. I am aware of the difficulties in managing online dating and relationships and how isolating this can become when old and unhelpful insecurities and patterns of behavior are triggered. I am also acutely aware of how many of us have been affected by trauma of some kind which may have unconsciously influenced the way we respond to others in day to day situations.
Just seeing these features from a different perspective and disclosing them to someone who is not a friend or family can help to unravel some of the complexities of your experiences.
I offer counselling which tends to be more short term work dealing with immediate issues and psychotherapy which is longer term and looks more deeply into the historic factors which may have impacted on your life.
Therapy may not be good for everyone. In my experience its benefits are best revealed to those who have made the decision to make changes in their life and are willing to engage in collaboration with the therapist to work through them. It is not always an easy process, but I believe that we all have inner resources which are sometimes difficult to engage with on our own.
