I am currently offering online therapy sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays; I predominantly use Zoom video calls and occasionally telephone calls.

I have undertaken extensive training in online counselling over the last year and I have found this an effective way of working and building a collaborative therapeutic relationship.

(When I can safely resume face to face sessions these are on Mondays in York and Tuesdays in Sherburn in Elmet.)

About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited counsellor with over 10 years experience of counselling a range of clients.

I am a warm and compassionate person and I offer you a welcoming, safe and accepting space where we can explore your concerns. My approach is professional and respectful and we will work at your pace to explore your experiences such that you may gain understanding, insight and perspective that will help you to move forward. I work alongside you, to help you to find your own path; I won’t tell you what to do, rather we will work together to find what is right for you. Working ethically is fundamental to my practice.

I have worked in a range of settings, predominantly in the NHS where I was based within GP surgeries and worked with clients who had been referred by their GPs. I routinely encountered and worked with a huge range of client issues from anxiety and depression to sexual abuse and identity issues. I have also worked with with vulnerable women at the charity York Women's Counselling, with young people at Scarborough Sixth Form College and at Leeds Trinity University.

I offer both short and long term counselling, depending on your needs.

In addition to my private practice I teach on the Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at York St John University.

Practice description

Currently all my sessions are either online via Zoom video calls or telephone. Face to face sessions are suspended due to the government restrictions. When it is safe to resume face to face sessions these are in tow different settings:

On Mondays I use rooms at St Bedes on Blossom Street which provides a very calm oasis in central York. Occasionally I also use dedicated counselling rooms at the Friends Meeting House, close to Fenwicks in York.

On Tuesdays I use a room at the Old Hungate Building in Sherburn, part of the Sherburn Medical Group Practice.

My first session

It is really important for you to find the right therapist - someone that you feel comfortable and safe with and so we would first have a free 15-20 minute phone conversation. This gives you chance to share any concerns, to explore the best route for you (for example whether Zoom would be a good method for you), and for you to experience a little of me. There is no obligation to continue working together.

If it felt right then we would organise an initial session where we would explore both what has brought you to counselling and how you want counselling to help you, and I would give you more information about what you can expect from counselling. I charge £20 for this session.

What I can help with

Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues

Types of therapy
