About me and my therapy practice
Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I understand that it can be a big decision, and that you may feel nervous, uncertain or vulnerable. My first priority is to provide a safe place where you feel you can be yourself and speak without fear of being judged. Once you feel comfortable, I will work with you to explore your issues, and help you understand what changes you can make to feel better about yourself and your relationships.
My work as therapist is built from background of working in the public and voluntary sectors for over 20 years supporting people with mental health issues, and as a therapist I have extensive experience of helping people with generalised anxiety disorder, depression, addiction, relationship issues and trauma.
The key to my success as a therapist is that I will not only help you to manage the symptoms of anxiety or depression by working with you on coping strategies, but also work with you on the underlying feelings that make you feel empty, low, stuck or overwhelmed.
My first step in our work together is to help you feel safe so that we can explore and understand what is causing you to feel anxious, depressed or stuck. Once you feel safe I will work with you to deal with painful emotions so that you can find a way to move forward in your life. How long this takes will depend on your reasons for seeking help and I will always work at a pace and a depth that you feel comfortable with.
As well as working with individuals, If you are couple looking for help I will work with you to both explore your problems and repair any breakdown in how you communicate with each other. My approach is based on stopping any negative behaviour by using empathy to build effective communication
