About me and my therapy practice

Having experienced therapy myself, I am aware of both how daunting and empowering this experience may be for you. Finding the right therapist can take time and it is important you feel confident that they have the skills and experience to handle your issues safely, collaboratively, and without judgement.

Since 2010, I have gained much experience working as a therapist and a counsellor with adults, children and young people. I have worked in schools, youth projects, universities, and GP practices. As a result, I am well-skilled in working with a wide range of issues and have much interest in supporting people to heal from trauma.

I created my private practice in 2019 so I could offer clients the opportunity and choice to access longer-term therapy from an experienced professional in a highly confidential environment. I can work flexibly using a number of approaches I have trained in.  I aim to provide a space that is warm, welcoming and professional.

My Therapeutic Approach

I will collaborate with you to focus on the topics or goals important to you. However, I also understand how healing it is to just have someone who can simply listen to you without judgment.

Depending on what you want from therapy, I can offer techniques that can be helpful in coping with emotions. We can also use basic concepts from neuroscience and evolutionary psychology to enhance your understanding of yourself if you would like this.

I originally trained as a Person-centred counsellor but since then have also trained as a Creative Arts and Play counsellor, an Online therapist and as an EMDR therapist. Therefore, I can offer many approaches to help you work through your thoughts and feelings in a way that feels comfortable and productive for you.

With children and young people (4-17 years), I typically use creative arts and play alongside talking therapy. At this time, I do not yet have the additional training to offer EMDR to these clients. I can only offer EMDR to clients aged 18+ years.

Practice description

I am a BACP accredited counsellor which certifies that I have developed significant skills and experience beyond my original qualification and that I continue to receive a high standard of training and supervision.

I am a member of the EMDR Association and I am working towards further accreditation with this professional body.

I am a member of the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme which ensures my suitability to work with vulnerable adults, children and young people. I am fully insured to offer counselling and EMDR therapy within my private practice.

I am a LGBTQI+ friendly counsellor. I am heterosexual and use the pronouns she/her. I am interested in gender stereotypes and how these can negatively impact our sense of identity and self-esteem.

I have worked with a large number of international students through my work with university counselling services. I am able to work with cultural and religious differences and with issues of race. I am particularly interested in intersectionality and the role discrimination can play in the development of trauma.

My first session

Our first session together will be an initial consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss your issues more fully and where I can help us decide whether the therapeutic approaches I offer would be helpful for you and fit what you are looking for.

For therapy to work, it is essential that you feel comfortable enough to talk honestly and openly about your thoughts and feelings. Therefore the first session also lets you get to know me a little before deciding whether you want us to work together.

During this appointment, you can expect we will briefly discuss both past and present circumstances that may be affecting you now. I will help you figure out what is important for you to talk about as well as what you want to get from our sessions.

I will make sure your therapy is focused on your needs or goals. If either of us don't feel I am the right person to help you with these, I can give you advice on what support might best suit you.
