About me and my therapy practice

As a psychodynamic therapist, I believe our earlier life experiences persist in affecting our ways of behaving, relating and feeling in the present, and in ways which are sometimes unconscious. I hold the belief that self awareness of our pasts may be a key to understanding ourselves better, but that effective counselling should help us make changes that free us to live more fully in the here and now and positively impact our futures. So these are my aims in my work with clients.

I also believe that our relationships and attachment figures are extremely influential, and hold the view that the relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to productive counselling work. I therefore offer a free initial consultation session to get to know you, understand your background and any specific areas you wish to address. Importantly this will also give you an idea of what counselling with me will be like. I believe that therapy can be an invaluable, rewarding and enjoyable process, but it can also feel challenging and is a time and cost commitment. So this session will also give space to discuss envisaged length of therapy (I offer short, mid and long term) as well as cost and frequency of sessions.

I am open, friendly and my practice is supportive of different cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, and is LGBTQ+ affirmative. My practice also incorporates an understanding of nuerodiversity and I am experienced working with nuerodivergent clients including those diagnosed with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Condition, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia.

Practice description

I am an experienced Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor who is registered and accredited with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I work in private practice and as a Senior Therapist at a well established therapy clinic in Brighton and Hove, and offer both in-person and online sessions.

My first session

I offer an initial free 30 minute consultation by either online or telephone appointment. This consultation will help me to:

Understand what's brought you to seek therapy at this time and your aims and desires from counselling with me. To take a brief background history and ascertain any significant life events or anything else you think I should be aware of. To discuss costs and envisaged length and frequency of sessions.

Importantly this is also an opportunity for you to decide if you feel like I am a good fit for you!
