About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes things can get in our way from living the life we wish to lead, experiences can be difficult to process or feel just overwhelming. You may see that your experience of life as it currently is could be different and that there is another way. Taking this first step to reach out for help may have taken real courage and I admire for this.

Whatever you have experienced and whatever challenges you are facing I am ready to listen. I believe that change and healing is possible for you and that you have the ability and resources within you to achieve your desires. I will work with you and alongside you towards this. You are able to decide what we explore in our sessions, the pace and how long you wish us to work together.

My approach to counselling is known as ‘Person-Centred’. The approach has a particular emphasis on the relationship between counsellor and client. Within our work together you may be able to discover a greater understanding of your thoughts and feelings and move towards self-healing, self-acceptance and self-empowerment. Rather than giving you advice or giving solutions, I am in a facilitative role as we explore your world together and help you find your own answers and meanings within this.

My counselling practice is affirming of people of all identities, backgrounds, abilities and opinions.

I am a qualified counsellor having completed a BA degree and diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. I undertake other trainings on a regular basis to enhance my counselling skills and ethical working.

I have experience working at counselling agencies working on a short term and long term basis. Within these I had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family issues, low self esteem, loss, worry and stress (including work related stress).

Practice description

My counselling practice offers online (through Zoom or Doxy.me) or telephone individual counselling for adult clients (18+) across the UK. I have completed a Certificate in Online & Telephone Counselling which gives me specialist skill to work with these methods of communication.

Online and telephone counselling facilitates counselling safely during the current challenging climate with Covid-19, but does also offer some great benefits for longer term work beyond when these difficulties pass. Research shows that these ways of working are as effective as in person therapy.

Some benefits include:

  • Being able to have counselling from the comfort of your own home
  • There's no need to travel or commute - making it easier to fit counselling around other commitments
  • You may be more comfortable working online or the telephone and find it easier to talk
  • If you move locations or travel somewhere else in the UK, therapy can still continue
  • You can choose the technology that feels better for you
  • Secure Zoom and Doxy.me encryption software offers confidentiality and piece of mind

There are some additional considerations in order to safeguard your confidentiality and these methods are not for everyone. However, should you wish to take advantage of them I will support you along the way to ensure our work together is safe and ethical.

My first session

Prior to our first session I offer a complimentary 15 minute phone call where you are able to ask any questions, get a feel for who I am as your therapist and we will look at our suitability of working together.

Individual counselling is then charged at £65 per 50 minute session.

In our first session we will go through our counselling agreement together and then look your details and some of your history together. We will then be able to explore whatever it is you wish to bring.
