About me and my therapy practice
None of us are immune to the suffering or difficulties that life can bring, and I am no exception to that. We are not always prepared for change especially when it takes us by surprise from losing our job, to experiencing/witnessing abuse, or a traumatic event, losing a loved one or generally feeling lost or disconnected in ourselves. It can leave us feeling unable to cope, undeserving or even scared of feeling hopeful again in case something bad happens.
Despite how you are feeling, you are doing the best you can and it’s ok for us all to fall apart for a while in the onset of suffering. If though after a while you are still struggling, can’t relax, feel stuck, or have a sense that happiness will ultimately lead to more suffering then it may help to talk through your experience with someone like myself.
As an integrative counsellor I do not prescribe to a “one size fits all” modality as we have all come to where we are from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences which have moulded us into our own unique version of ourselves. Sometimes the self becomes disrupted through life’s difficulties or individual or sustained trauma and we can feel less whole as a result, fragmented even.
Therefore, my work is focused on guiding you back to feeling yourself and supporting you in reclaiming those parts that may feel lost, broken, unheard or discarded. Through helping you to understand and find meaning in your experiences and assist you in developing new coping strategies that encourage growth and a more content way of living. It is a great privilege to work in a role where I get to share a part of someone else’s journey and I believe we all have the capacity for change, compassion, growth, and recovery.

As a relational integrative counsellor I do not prescribe to a “one size fits all”approach as we all experience and perceive the world and each other differently. My practice draws upon a number of post-modern theoretical approaches from person-centred (humanistic), psychodynamic and third wave cognitive behavioural therapies (CBT) like ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy),Compassion Focused (CFT), Mindfulness and Dialectal Behavioural Therapy (DBT). I am continually updating my skills through CPD and integrating these into my practice to include Complex Trauma, Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal and the Rewind technique.
However, the most important element of counselling is the therapeutic alliance (client and counsellor relationship) therefore if after the first or any future sessions, you do not feel I am the right counsellor for you then it’s not a problem. For me it’s important that you choose someone you feel you comfortable with.
My first session
I first start by sending you an assessment form and then booking a free 30 consultation. Just to see what you hoping to get from counselling and to make sure it’s suitable. Very occasionally I might need to refer you for more specialised help first but that’s something we will discuss and decide together.
From there we would go through the counsellor and client agreement and once you’re happy with that book in your first session which lasts for one hour.
Most clients feel nervous thinking about or when attending the first session and this is normal. After all you are sitting in a room with a stranger talking about things you might not have said aloud before. I hope to put you at ease by gently getting to know you and creating a supportive and non-judgemental environment where we can explore your issues together.
