About me and my therapy practice

I provide sessions via Zoom so please enquire if you would like to take up sessions this way. I also offer face to face (when safe to resume) therapy in central Taunton.

In a cycle of unhappiness, misunderstood, or feeling inadequate? Or just feeling stuck or numb in a world that doesn't get you?

We can all experience difficult times in our lives, and some difficulties can seem endless, with no apparent solution or way out. These difficulties can leave us feeling alone and often afraid.

Often we repeat patterns of behaviour that we have learnt, which are often not our own. These behaviours can interfere in our relationships not only with others but with ourselves too.

I offer a safe and confidential space where you can, at your own pace, tell me about your experiences, thoughts and feelings, however troubling they are to you.

Practice description

I trained initially in an integrative approach which allows me to use a range of psychotherapeutic theories and skills to ensure I meet the individual needs of each person. Psychodynamic theory stresses the importance of how our past experiences shape our current behaviour and relationships and in turn our response to current difficulties.

The connection between therapist and client is vital in determining positive therapeutic outcomes. Because of this importance I focus on building a secure and trusting relationship so you can feel safe to explore whatever is troubling in confidence and without judgement. Together we can begin to think about yourself in relation to others and the outside world and the difficulties this brings up for you.

My experience

I've been a counsellor for more than 10 years. I see clients privately and for a charitable counselling organisation. Prior to becoming a counsellor I had roles in corporate organisations and also within education. I have a particular interest in the struggle many males have, knowingly and unknowingly with their identity  and what masculinity means to them.

My first session

My approach is to offer two initial consultation sessions each lasting for one and a quarter hours on consecutive weeks to think about what you may want or need from therapy. Following this and if you feel that I am the right therapist for you the aim would be to continue with weekly therapy.
