About me and my therapy practice
I have had personal experience of disordered eating, depression and anxiety - these issues led me to seeking out my own personal therapy which was a difficult, but life changing experience for me. The confidence I gained through this personal therapy enabled me to leave my career in teaching to follow a long-held dream of running my own businesses - being a therapist, and owning a café.
Both of these jobs to me, are all about people. In the café, we have a range of board games for our customers to enjoy, and make connections with others through play.
Being a therapist means, I can work with individuals on a much deeper level. Our work together will facilitate you in making the changes you’d like to make – giving you the best life you can have, whatever that may look like for you.
I sometimes use board games within my practice – whether this is playing a quick game at the beginning of a session to calm some nerves, or using abstract picture cards to help explore a certain feeling you may have. We may even create a Dungeons and Dragons role playing character of you - and perhaps what you’d like your life to be like, to help facilitate our work. I would always leave this request to you, so if that doesn’t sound like something you would like, we do not have to work in that way.
I have an office in the commercial district in Liverpool so I am able to offer face to face appointments. I also offer appointments online via zoom.
I have experience working with a wide range of presenting issues, including, but not limited to: OCD, depression, anxiety, disordered eating, self -harm, suicidal thoughts, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, health anxiety, work stress, sexual abuse and general low mood.
You may have a specific problem you would like to focus on, or you may just have a feeling that something is “not right” – we can explore together to pin point what is troubling you.
My first session
Prior to the first full length session I provide a free 20 minute consultation so we can introduce ourselves. This also provides space for you to ask any questions you may have about me and how I work.
The first session is then about getting to know you a bit better. I will ask some basic details such as your address and GP details, and then open up the conversation to get an overview of what your current life situation looks like, and what you would like to change. Not everyone knows what exactly they would like to change at the beginning so don't worry if you're not sure.
