About me and my therapy practice
Counselling and EMDR can bring peace to old traumas and understanding to your reactions. I can help you achieve a healthy balance so that your life is calmer and more nourishing, empowering you to achieve what is best for you.
The wounds from relationships can last a lifetime. Counselling and EMDR are therapies based on healing relationships that can resolve these wounds no matter how long ago they occurred.
Traumas are old memories that still disturb you, leaving you distressed long after the events took place. They spark painful emotions that are as strong as they were years, even decades ago. Things that you thought were under control could be upsetting you far more than you feel they should.
I can explain why these historic events have affected your mind, emotions and body.
In Counselling and EMDR I offer a therapeutic relationship in which you will feel sufficiently safe to explore your history, to reflect on old beliefs and to relax some of your old rules for living. EMDR particularly can reduce the pain from old trauma, removing its power to upset you.
I am also trained in the Flash Technique, an adjunct therapy to EMDR, which can bring resolution to especially distressing old traumas without the need to dwell on them.
I have a particular interest in working with clients who experienced the trauma of being sent away to boarding school and also with those in recovery from addiction.
Practice description
I see clients in Gloucester on Mondays or in Stroud on Thursdays and Fridays, or online, using Zoom.
My sessions last for 50 minutes but I have the flexibility to extend the session if we lose time because of technical difficulties.
When working online, you need a quiet room which the members of your household know not to disturb for the length of our sessions.
There is parking right outside where I practice in both Stroud and Gloucester. In Stroud there are only two steps into my room from outside.
I am a registered and Accredited Member of BACP and an EMDR Accredited Practitioner with EMDR UK.
I accept payment by BACS.
My first session
Our work begins when we start our relationship during the first session. I will invite you to tell me what brings you to counselling, what you may want and what I can do for you.
I will listen carefully to what you tell me, both to what you say, what you don't say and to its significance to you. I will check that I have understood everything and I will explain what I can offer, the way I work and my commitment to you.
I will also describe my contract and invite any comments on it. There will be time for us to discuss if this is what you want and if it is, to decide on our next session.

About me and my therapy practice
Working with clients as a professional counsellor or psychotherapist is exciting, rewarding, challenging and, at times, stressful and upsetting. I see supervision as a space to explore all these responses and as central to managing our professional lives.
I am a person-centred counsellor, and supervisor as well as EMDR psychotherapist. I offer a safe, compassionate and empathic space in which we can explore all that you do with your clients, including your process, successes, the ‘mistakes’ that you think you make, the application of the ethical framework and the development of your professional career.
My main purpose is to help you deepen and clarify your understanding of your clients. We all have blocks and areas of incongruence but working together in supervision, we will achieve a much better understanding of your clients than you can do on your own. I want us to collaborate so that you feel fully supported in the vital work that you do with your clients.
I have been working as a supervisor for over 10 years and my supervisees are working in treatment centres, agencies, private practice, employee assistance programs (EAPs), universities and teaching in FE colleges.
With the client at the centre of what we do and with you as the tool for effective therapy, everything that affects you is welcome in supervision with me. This includes material at the global level, events in your life and your unique process, to the nuts and bolts of managing your client contracts.
I am familiar with counselling and supervising in private practice and in organisational settings. They present different challenges and benefits which we can explore together.
My session timings are flexible enough to meet the monthly supervision standards for all the professional bodies.

I will explain how I work and what I can offer you, my approach to the BACP Ethical Framework, my responsibility to you and your clients.
