I offer long-term or time limited sessions face to face, online and over the telephone. These take place weekly, although I maybe able to offer fortnightly sessions, so please do ask.
I offer daytime appointments Monday-Wednesday.
About me and my therapy practice
I believe that everyone has their own reason for seeking therapy just as every therapist has their own journey they undertook to be available to offer their support. As part of my journey I undertook therapy which helped me to reduce stored up emotions, ease up responsibility and allow self-care into my life. I felt heard and understood. It gave me the chance to understand the benefits that counselling can bring first hand so I want to offer others the same chance to benefit from therapy too.
I am a counsellor who has a special interest, and extensive experience, in supporting carers. I understand that holding a caring role can feel overwhelming especially as you are likely to be trying to balance it alongside other aspects of your life, such as work, family or looking after your own needs. It may feel lonely and isolating. The situation you are in may leave you feeling low, anxious or stuck.
The feelings of being overwhelmed and there being little or no choice, can feel familiar. There are times where a situation can bring out anxiety, a constant worry about the situation that surrounds. There are times where it is hard to shut off and sleep is disturbed and restless. The low feeling of everything feeling a bit too much and energy being depleted. This is where I have found having therapy helped me recognise the choices that I had and how I introduced a better balance into my life which I have mentioned as self care.
I believe in personal growth, looking to recognise our own strengths and working towards self-development. Through providing support in a therapeutic relationship I believe it will allow space for freely exploring what feels important and consider the past, present and future at a pace that feels right for you.
Where I work
I work face to face at a location in Shoreham-by-sea. It is close to the train station, a public car park or the bus service which runs along the A259.
I offer counselling online through Zoom or on the telephone, therefore, we do not need to be in the same area as we work remotely.
How I work
I support you through listening, you can talk about what feels right for you and we can look at your experiences, thoughts and feelings together. This will be done without judgement and in a confidential setting.
I believe by working together we can work through what is important and reflect what is going on for you.
Sessions go at a pace that feels right for you, there is no obligation to say anything. There are no set amount of sessions that you need to have, we can work short-term or long-term.
How counselling can help
Counselling can help with feelings of loneliness and isolation. It can offer support through your experiences of anxiety, bereavement, feelings of being anger, scared, sad or low.
Qualifications and experience
I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor and I work with adults over 18. I hold a certificate in online and telephone counselling.
Outside of my private practice I volunteer for a charity that supports carers. Counselling support is offered to a range of caring roles, such as parents, someone with dementia, Alzheimer's, Autism, someone with a mental health issue, drug and alcohol issue or learning difficulties.
I continue to update my practice through attending seminars, courses, workshops, networking with other professionals, reading books, papers and outcomes of research. I am on the Committee of a local network of practicing counsellors and psychotherapists, which I currently hold the role as Secretary.
My first session
Our first session will be a consultation that I offer over the telephone so we can discuss working together; what you are looking for and it is a chance to ask questions. This will last up to 30 minutes and is free.
