About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychotherapist based in Ilkley. I offer a comfortable and supportive environment within which you can begin to get to the know the person you are, and, with increased self-awareness, explore the person you want to be.
One of my favourite quotes says a lot about the way I work:
“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending” C S Lewis..
I believe that we all hold the key to our own recovery, whatever difficulty we are facing, no matter how big or small. . I see my role as a compassionate observer in your life, working alongside you in therapy to uncover the possible roots of the challenges you are experiencing and the core beliefs you may hold.
As an integrative therapist, I am not wedded to working with any one therapeutic style; instead, I bring my knowledge, my experience, and a genuine interest in you and your story. My belief is that the relationship created within the therapy is the key to the process of self-discovery, and how well we reach that. I don't offer to ‘fix’ you, and, as a therapist I don’t hold magical answers to whatever it is that you are struggling with, but I can help you to understand why that struggle may exist in the first place, and how you might be able to free yourself from this to enjoy a more complete and meaningful life
I may not have been through exactly the same experience as you have, but I will try very hard to understand how it must feel for you to have done so without judgement and with honesty and curiosity.
Having been through this process myself, I understand all too well how overwhelming it can be to start looking for help; I offer a free 30 minute consultation for us to talk about what is going on for you, what therapy might involve, what you feel you need and whether we think we could work effectively together.
Let’s start by talking and see where we can go from there
Feel free to visit my website to find out more.
I offer a comfortable, confidential space within which we can explore what is going on for you. If, once, we have had our initial conversation, you feel you would like to work with me, then we can set up a time to meet around your availability and requirements. At the first session, I will tell you more about how I work, what to expect from the process, find out more about what it is that you are finding difficult and what you are hoping to get from our sessions together. To help with figuring out what it is that you want, I will often ask what you might like to be changed by our work, and how you'd like to feel/be different by the end. It is a chance for you to start to tell your story and for us to become curious about how this might have impacted your current feelings and behaviours, giving us a place to start from.
