About me and my therapy practice
My name is Sarah Edge and I specialise in providing person- centered mental health support, in the form of Counselling and Psychotherapy for Pregnant and Postnatal women and people, from the Bump and Baby Hideout in Sale, Manchester.
Having a baby is perhaps one of the biggest psychological, physical and emotional adjustments you may ever experience. It is not unusual to notice an increase in anxiety and a decrease in mood around this time. You may have experienced difficulties in conceiving, in pregnancy, birth trauma, difficulties feeding and let's not forget being pregnant in and/ or giving birth during a global pandemic, all of which may impact your mental health postpartum.
I am a qualified, experienced and accredited therapist, but I am also a mother of two young children. It was my personal experience of postnatal mental ill health, that inspired me to start this perinatal specialist service.
Practice description
I provide perinatal specialist counselling & psychotherapy (talking therapy), with a focus on pre & postnatal mental health (and surrounding issues).
I describe my style as person- centered, compassion focused and trauma aware.
I believe that making, carrying, birthing and raising babies involves some level of loss, physical and emotional trauma and that women deserve time and support to physically and emotionally recover.
I try to be affordable and flexible and have options to bring your baby if childcare is a barrier, work by phone if leaving the house is difficult and book ad hoc or regular sessions (whichever suits your needs, budget, access to childcare and/ or availability).
I provide a mix of evening, morning and afternoon appointments Mon- Thu and a single session is priced at £59 for 50 minutes. As I work with new mums, and as I mum myself, I know there may be times you are unable to attend at short notice, I do not charge in full, for missed sessions.
I have both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in psychology, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy. I have extensive knowledge and experience supporting new and pregnant mothers & have a busy and thriving therapy practice. I have professional relationships with a number of recognised charities supporting new mothers and parents, as well as growing social media pages @maternalmentalhealthmanual. I have written a manual supporting women's mental health in the postpartum which can be found at www.maternalmentalhealthmanual.com.
