About me and my therapy practice

Counselling provides a space for you to reconnect with your sense of self, discover the path to personal fulfilment, and release your potential.

Using a person-centred approach I provide genuine care and understanding; allowing you to move from an experience of being stuck, to an experience of growth.

I myself have experienced the powerful healing that can come from connection, warmth, and caring.

Over the past 15 years I have worked extensively within counselling delivering one-to-one sessions, facilitating therapy groups, managing services, and training counsellors at university.

My interest is in helping clients to voice experiences in ways that feel meaningful to them, so they can move forward in good health.

My commitment is to be alongside you in your process of change.

Practice description

As life is varied so to is my counselling practice. Sessions are offered on a short term or long term basis being either face-to-face, online, outdoors, or by telephone.

About me and my therapy practice

All we have to learn is EVERYTHING! For me learning is a process that never ends and one in which we each need to find our own path. With this in mind I offer learner-centered training in counselling and related areas.

My bespoke training can be offered to groups of individuals or organisations looking to expand their understanding of counselling, or to develop a use of counselling skills.

Training can be general covering the key concepts and skills used within helping relationships; listening, attending, reflecting. Or a specialist frame can be used; addiction, sexual abuse, young carers.

Additionally, specific topic areas can be covered including sleep hygiene, confidence building, bereavement, anxiety, depression, maintaining boundaries, reflective practice, risk management.

I work in a person-centered modality and this ethos underpins the delivery of my training. Courses can and do cover additional modalities including CBT and Psychodynamic.

Delivery is informative and experiential and I seek to develop a sense of self-belief in participants. Each of us is, after all, a learner.

My belief is that all participants come with experience and I hold this respectfully, facilitating a mutual capacity to grow and learn. Central to this is a belief in the power of self-awareness.

I also offer exploitative sessions in which participants can discuss re-occurring challenges and within this I offer informed guidance.

Practice description

Having worked for 25 years within helping professions I bring a wealth of experience to my role as trainer.

Within the field of counselling my employment has included the roles of counsellor, counselling supervisor, and counselling services manager.

Overlapping with this is my employment in education where I have worked as a university tutor, college lecturer, and community tutor delivering training in counselling.

Additionally, I have delivered psycho-educational training in services including social care, social work, community, and mental health services.

I am able to offer bespoke training to meet individual and organisational requirements. This can be delivered face-to-face or online.

My first session

Enquirers can be met over the telephone or by email.

It is useful to have in mind an overview of your training needs; topic, duration, number of participants, preferred location, is the required level of complexity to be beginner, intermediate, or advanced.

If you are approaching me as part of an organisation it is useful for me to have some background information so that I can assess my suitability as a trainer.

In some cases a follow-up consultation may be required to further discuss the needs and requirements of the training provision. In instances where this is required there may be a small fee.

Currently I am offering online supervision only.

About me and my therapy practice

I qualified as a Supervisor in 2010 and supervise using a person-centered approach.

As a supervisor my approach assumes the social world we inhabit consists of many realities, rather than one concrete reality. So I work to facilitate your understanding of clients, rather than an explanation of clients.

By attending to the dynamic change processes that occurs through reflective practice I hope to support your awareness so that you can fully encounter clients.

A passion of mine is finding authentic experiences that have lost, or never found, a voice. I am interested in social justice, diversity, and equality and work to support supervisees in reaching their full potential.

As a supervisor I facilitate an egalitarian relationship with supervisees, while ethically holding clients in mind.

Practice description

Having worked in helping professions for over 25 years I bring a wealth of experience to supervision.

My vocational roles in the field have included, manager of counselling services, counselling supervisor, and lecturer in counselling.

Sectors I have worked with include homelessness, addiction, schools, community and adult education, social care, social work, sexual abuse services, and mental health services.

Currently, I hold a private practice for my client work and I am employed at university where I deliver professional training in counselling and psychotherapy.

I find this balance of practice and tutoring allows me to offer a well-rounded supervisory experience.

My first session

The focus of the first session is to establish a strong working relationship based on mutual trust and respect. It may be that you have questions and I will be happy to respond to them.

Within this first meeting we can explore the relational fit and you can decide if our encounter is something you wish to take forward and develop.

As I believe the supervisory relationship is central to good practice I offer a reduced rate of £35 for the first session.
