About me and my therapy practice

How are you feeling today...?

I understand that you may be browsing this website because you feel unhappy with certain aspects of your life. You may want to talk about them, or consider making changes, but counselling might seem a daunting prospect if you've never tried it before. I invite you to a free initial telephone consultation, so that you can discuss your requirements with me, without obligation.

Who am I...?

I believe the therapeutic relationship is key to building trust with clients.  From this place of trust, feelings and choices can be explored because you will feel safe, understood and accepted.  As a warm, empathic and non-judgmental counsellor, it's my mission to support you through your stress, anxiety and depression, so that you can move on with your life.

It is my hope that by working with me you will be able to feel happier in yourself, accept difficult life experiences, gain the confidence to deal with life's challenges and form healthier, more satisfying relationships.

How I work...

I believe you have a unique tendency to strive in the way that's best for you.  As such, I believe most answers to your problems lie within yourself... and it's my job to help you find them.  Sometimes events in life can stop you from striving in the best way for yourself.  Sometimes other people - no matter how well meaning they are - can feel a barrier to your recovery.  But by carefully listening and supporting you, I believe you can find your own path - and your own voice - so that you can go on to live without your previous worries, make the best choices for yourself, and live a happier, more fulfilled life.

Practice description

What about the pandemic...?

I understand you may be suffering with stress and anxiety at this difficult time. Equally, I know there may have been other things worrying you before the pandemic began and these now feel a whole lot worse.  I have recently undertaken additional training in loss for Covid-19 related issues so that I can support you in the best possible way.

How does telephone and online counselling work...?

During the pandemic, I am continuing to work with clients online and by telephone.  In essence I will be offering you the same counselling experience as if we were meeting face to face. There are a few extra things to consider but we can discuss these during your free initial phone call.

For online counselling I use a system called 'Zoom'.  This is a safe platform because it offers end-to-end encryption (to prevent unauthorised access) and is free for you to use. If you are unfamiliar with this application I will be happy to talk you through it. I also have a help sheet which I will send to you before our first session.

For online and telephone work, I am able to work with anyone over the age of 18 who resides in the UK.

As we will be working together online or over the phone you don’t need to live in the Nottingham area during this time.   Although you may only need counselling during the pandemic, if we begin working together in the longer-term I would be happy to continue working with you online or over the phone, until your counselling comes to a natural conclusion.

If however you do live locally to Nottingham, we can transfer to face-to-face meeting when it is safe to do so.

For legal reasons I'm unable to work with clients outside the UK.

My first session

What happens during the first session...?

The first meeting is an opportunity for you to discuss your requirements and for me to check that I'm the right person to help you.  This session is also an opportunity for you to check that I’m the right person for you too! As such, I will carry out an assessment and will also take some time to go over my working agreement with you as well as my data protection policy. I encourage you to ask as many questions as you like; the assessment session is always a two-way relationship and I want to ensure you are as happy and comfortable as possible whilst you are working with me.

How many sessions will I need...?

I can offer you a full hour each week. I offer short or longer term counselling, depending on your requirements. It is ultimately up to you how many sessions you would like to have (and the frequency of them) and this is something we can discuss at your first meeting with me. I also recommend regular ‘reviews’ so that we can talk about how counselling is going for you and discuss progress and any setbacks. Although you are free to end counselling at any point without obligation, I would recommend we work together towards an ending where possible, to tie-up any ‘loose ends’.

What if I have further questions...?

I hope this information is helpful but if you have any further questions or concerns about your counselling, please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone, email or via the 'contact' form on my website.  I offer an initial free 30 minute telephone consultation and there is always opportunity to ask any further questions you may have during our initial assessment and even beyond this.
