About me and my therapy practice
Maybe you’re reading this and wondering, “how can counselling help?” or “how will talking change things?”. I understand. I once asked those questions too, but then I found that talking in confidence with a qualified counsellor helps to untangle difficult thoughts and feelings and can provide support on how to manage things better.
Hi, I’m Naeema! As your counsellor, I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I will help you figure things out for yourself. I’m here to listen and work to understand your situation, to explore with you how to navigate the circumstances and feelings that have come with whatever it is that’s concerning you. I believe we all know what’s best for us, but sometimes we can feel lost and it’s hard to tell friends or family because we don’t want to trouble them or hurt anyone. That’s where it helps to tell someone who is neutral and will not cross paths with the people in your personal life, with confidentiality being of the utmost importance. You will lead the sessions in whatever way suits you best, and you will remain the expert on yourself.
I know it takes a lot of courage to reach out, and there’s always the worry if a therapist is the right one for you, but my role will be to support you without judgement and to build a trusting connection as you work to understand feelings or thoughts and maybe just say out loud what you’d like to, which in itself can be elemental for your wellbeing.
As well as having experience working with grief, anxiety and depression, I have a special interest working in the areas of child loss, difficulties during and after pregnancy, divorce and post-divorce, supporters of those with individual needs including autism and ADHD, carers of those with Alzheimer’s, cross-cultural difficulties, loneliness and the unique challenges of an expat or foreign service lifestyle.
I currently offer short or long-term weekly sessions by phone or Zoom and will resume face to face when possible. You can however stay on-line or by phone which means we are not restricted by location.
