About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Jane. I offer online, telephone and outdoor counselling sessions on weekdays. If you feel it's time to talk to a counsellor about something that is troubling you, please get in touch.
Most of the time we can work things out for ourselves but in tricky times, when we are dealing with so much, when we maybe don't have the same support available, or we are just worn down, it can help to spend time with a counsellor. I will listen, help you work out what has brought you to this point, what you want to change through counselling, and help you explore possible next steps. I will not judge or tell you what to do. I am experienced in helping adults struggling with anxiety, low mood, depression, low self worth and confidence. We will work together to provide you with some respite, calm and strengthen your own resources.
As a next step, I am happy to offer a no charge and no obligation 20 minute session to say hello and see if working together feels right for you at the moment. I will be happy to answer any questions you have about what might be involved.
We can meet for a short time to help you with a specific issue or work together for longer if you feel it's time to dig a bit more to sort out something that is deeply rooted. We can discuss what you have in mind and then keep our work under review as we go along.
Before training to be a counsellor I practiced as an employment lawyer for over 20 years. My experience has given me insight into the stresses arising from work, conflict and change. I always tried to be practical and always tried to help clients work out what was important and help them work towards that. I bring that focus and commitment to my work as a counsellor. Alongside my private practice I am a volunteer counsellor.
Practice description
I work online, on the telephone and outdoors. I offer the convenience of sessions on Zoom and the telephone if you are unable or prefer not to travel.
I offer the option of walking along the local beaches around North Berwick if you would prefer getting outdoors and like the idea of walking and getting the benefit of the fresh air and sea views as we talk through the issues you bring.
I work flexibly and so we can meet when it suits you. It can be helpful to meet weekly to start with but we can move to less frequently if that feels the right thing to do as we go along.
My approach is to try to appreciate what you are dealing with and your perspective. I don't judge or advise but will seek to help you find ways of coping or moving forward. Sometimes, in difficult times, it's just useful to have a private space to say how you really feel, to know you are being seen and heard.
My first session
Starting counselling is a big step and so during our first session you can tell me as little or as much as you want to. I would like to hear what has brought you to counselling and what you want from it. We will always work at your pace.
