About me and my therapy practice

Please note: I am now breaking for the summer and not taking any new clients until September 2024. If you contact me I will reply as soon as I can upon my return.

Hello there, my name is Yasmin and I am a registered counsellor who works with people online and over the the telephone. I am physically based in South Gloucestershire but able to work with people from anywhere in the country.

You may be reading this because you are experiencing difficulties in your life right now and would like some support in understanding what is going on and perhaps in identifying what you want to do about it. My belief is that, whilst I cannot tell you the 'right' way of doing something or advise you on the best path, I can provide you with a space to safely explore and untangle your thoughts, feelings and experiences. It is my hope that through having this safe space, and through being able to voice whatever it is you need to voice, you will be able to gain greater clarity on what is going on in your life and what it is that you want to happen.

Practice description

Professionally, I would describe myself as an integrative counsellor - by 'integrative' what I mean is that I draw upon several different theories of counselling in my work; I mainly use ideas from existential psychotherapy and the person-centred approach but will also draw upon ideas from cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).

My personal approach to counselling maintains the view that we each have our own unique view of the world, that we each experience the world differently, and that we create our own individual meanings that help us to make sense of these experiences. Sometimes, life can become limited and stuck in various ways and for various reasons and at these times it can be useful to talk to somebody about what is happening. Somebody who is impartial, actively listens to us and tries to understand the world from our perspective, can be an extremely useful ally.

As a counsellor, I aim to provide a therapeutic space characterised by warmth, empathy, openness and a non-judgmental attitude on my part. I will work collaboratively with you and will be led by you and your needs.

My first session

A first session is a chance for us to meet and to decide whether or not we want to work together. It is important to note that different counsellors and different ways of working suit different people, so the first session is a chance for you to get a feel for how I work and to decide whether this is right for you.

During an initial session we will explore your reasons for seeking counselling, what it is that you would like to get out of your counselling sessions and what your expectations of counselling are. Together we will also assess your current needs to ensure that counselling is the right option for you right now.

If we decide to work together, we will arrange future meetings and discuss your needs, including how many sessions of counselling you want.
