About me and my therapy practice

Is there something that doesn't quite make sense that you, you and your partner or your child might like to explore? Do you feel stressed, anxious, depressed, confused, sad, alone or is something else bothering you? You're really not on your own...

Did you know that everyone has reactive behaviours that happen automatically? These are called defense mechanisms and have probably been really helpful in keeping you emotionally safe at some point in your life.  The thing is that these usually continue to happen even when they're not needed any more!

Regardless of age, many aspects of who and how we are,and how we react towards people and situations, stem from our personal life experiences, the attachment patterns we have formed with the most significant people in our lives and our psychological development.

After exploration, through our sessions, many people have found that these can be managed differently as they have developed more understanding about how and why they are occurring. Please see my website (link above) for more information and feedback written by other clients.

I work in an integrative way so I will adapt my approach, drawing on various therapeutic models to meet you or your child's needs. For example you may wish to talk about something and explore it together one week but choose not to talk about it again, or you may want to talk about the same thing over and over.

My fees are: £45 per 50 minute session for adults or 45 minute session per young person, £65 for 1 hour and 15 minutes per couple and £50 per hour or £70 per hour and a half for Supervisees. Concessions are available for students at certain times. Please ask for more information.

Thank you.

Practice description

I am lucky to have my own private room which is great for ensuring that your sessions are as COVID safe as possible.  I am offering either face to face, online or telephone sessions to individual adults, couples, young people and supervisees wherever it is possible and I am fully trained to work using all of these approaches.

If you'd like to try remote therapy, I use a safe online platform that is encrypted to military level. It is simple to set up and use and no-one can see or hear what we are saying to each other. You can have sessions via web cam on your Smart phone, Tablet, I-Pad, Laptop or Computer.

If you'd prefer to try face to face therapy then I will offer you hand sanitiser, a face shield and test your temperature using a digital head thermometer as you enter the building (oh how times have changed!). My room really is quite cosy and I've been told it has a friendly feel to it, but, in line with government guidelines my seats are the recommended 2 metres apart and there's a discrete screen in the middle of the room. For peace of mind, all of my furniture is also cleaned in between clients.

Sessions with adults tend to be talking, but with some creative activities if you're interested in this approach. With younger children I generally offer therapy in play as this helps them express their thoughts and feelings without needing to put them into words. Sessions with adolescents tend to be a mixture of both approaches depending on what feels best, so some creativity and some talking.

If you'd like to know more, please just ask. :-)

My first session

This initial session is an opportunity for us to meet each other and to consider together how my way of working might match up with the support you or your child want or need. You might choose to share what your worries are or what would like to be different at the end of counselling, or we might ask each other some questions to help us think about things too.

For children and young people, this first session usually involves a few minutes with the adult and child together (to explain my way of working & what will and won't be shared etc.), then 15 minutes with the adult on their own (dependent on the young person's age & how they feel about this), then the last part of the session is with the young person on their own.

If after this first session we agree that therapy might be helpful then it would be entirely your (or your child's) choice whether you'd like to see me again. You can take however long you need in making this decision.

Please feel free to contact me, to talk about this further. Best wishes and take care, Anita :-)

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I know how anxiety provoking it can be sharing details of situations that have happened in our field work and how difficult it can be when we're on our own and uncertain about what might be the next best choice of action. This is why I try my best to be available in those times when things feel worrying and I offer a balance of support, to help you feel comfortable, but also enough challenge to enable you to reflect on your practices where necessary.

I am lucky because I have my own room about 6 miles south of Shrewsbury so can see supervisees face to face within a COVID safe environment, but I'm also fully trained for remote working so can offer online supervision if this is something you might like to explore?

I am a BACP accredited therapist and I'm qualified to Level 6 with the cpcab in counselling supervision. I aim to be available when I'm needed in a supportive, encouraging way but I will also offer exploration and enough challenge to help you grow in your own way in your counselling practices. My theoretical orientation is Integrative with Person-Centred theory as my core and I draw on knowledge from other approaches (Psychoanalytic, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and some CBT) whenever appropriate.

I am experienced in and able to supervise fully trained and student counsellors / psychotherapists working with CYP, adults and couples.

My fees are £50 per hour or £70 for 1.5 hours a month. Concessions are available for a students. To find out more without obligation, please give me a call or drop me an email. Best wishes, Anita

Practice description

I am now back working from home delivering face to face or remote supervision via webcam or telephone from my counselling room over in Shropshire.

It does feel slightly different doing online supervision but does have some advantages in that you have the option carry out your session on a Smart phone, tablet or other portable device in any confidential space without the need to allow travel time. It also enables you to choose someone who feels right for you rather than being limited to choosing someone just because they're local.

If you'd prefer face to face meetings then I can reassure you that COVID safe measures are now in place. When visiting my room I ask everyone to sanitise their hands, take their temperature using a digital thermometer, offer them a face shield, and the seats are 2m apart. There's also a discrete screen between us (it is still a cosy room, despite all these measures!)

If you'd like to meet with me, then we can decide whether working together feels right then please feel free to contact me. Best wishes, Anita :-)

My first session

This is a no- obligation opportunity for us to have a chat and think together about our levels of experience, ways of working and expectations of each other if we were to work together in the future. There might be some questions we want to ask each other. We may want to understand what support might be helpful and ways we might manage this to address your & your clients needs.

Maybe you have a new venture in mind that you would like to share in supervision or perhaps you might want to bounce some ideas around or try a new way of working in your practices? I have over 7 years of experience as a counsellor / psychotherapist working with clients aged from 5 years upwards and have trained in psychology and various theoretical orientations. I find this has been very useful when working in supervision with other counsellors / psychotherapists.

Please feel free to contact me if you'd like further information. kind regards, Anita :-)
