About me and my therapy practice
After having obtained my Master's degree in Psychology at Amsterdam University, I worked for several years in the Psychiatric Department of the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, now called the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, a London teaching hospital. As the department dealt with complex cases referred from all over the UK, it gave me the necessary competence and experience to set up subsequently in private practice which suited my family circumstances at the time. I have now been in private practice for over 30 years. Recent advances in IT have made it possible to also offer e-counselling and therapy via Skype and Zoom to people who would like to see me but live too far away.
My special interest is the trans-generational effects of trauma, particularly in relation to the Holocaust. I see clients individually and have facilitated second generation groups for adult children of Holocaust survivors and refugees from Nazi-persecution in London for over 30 years and have also facilitated child survivor and second generation groups in Berlin and Prague. I am a Patron of the Prague-based Rafael Institute and have presented many papers in the UK, Prague and more recently in Germany.
I was born and grew up in Holland and came to the UK in 1973.
- I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist;
- A Registered Member MBACP (Sen. Accred);
- Qualified as a Psychologist & Psychotherapist with the Dutch Ministry of Health;
- I hold the Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society (MBPsS); and
- AxaPPP, Aviva & Bupa recognised.
Since the lock down as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic I am seeing all my existing and new clients via Skype and Zoom.
Practice description
I offer short-term individual therapy, using CBT and solution-focused techniques, as well as longer term therapy following psycho-dynamic and other treatment models: rather than using a single approach I use what I believe will best suit the client's needs. In view of the fact that I have seen over the years a large number of clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and with many different issues, I seem to be able to apply the insights gained to the best advantage of my clients.
My first session
Exploratory to obtain a background to the issues the client brings.
In the case of short-term therapy we determine together the focus of the sessions.

Practice description
With many years of experience, I am able to support supervisees through their training and as they build their own practices.
I see clients from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, and facilitate workshops both in the UK and abroad.
I am able to work with supervisees helping them to build up their confidence by bridging the gap between their academic learning and putting theory into practice .
My first session
To learn the precise requirements for the whole training period so that the supervision offered can be tailored to meet both course specifications and each supervisee's professional needs.
Agreement is reached on the preparation required for each session and the manner in which the period of supervision will build a coherent support and development mechanism that will reinforce the supervisee's formal learning.
Incremental benefit will accrue from the discussion of the issues that the supervisee brings to each session by framing the insights gained in terms of action points to be evaluated at the following session.
The explanation of this process in the first session will align expectations and set standards for the supervisee's continuing professional development.
