About me and my therapy practice

It may be you're reading this because life feels unsettled at the moment. You may have a particular issue that you would like some support with, you may be struggling to manage a time of change or transition, or to find a sense of who you are where you belong.

Whatever the reason, struggling on alone can be a painful and disheartening process. It is important to find the right support, to help you at this time.

I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy, working with adults and young people.

My relationship with my clients is of central importance to me in my work. It is important to me to build trust, offering you a safe confidential place to explore your needs and experiences.

I work with an integrative model, which means that I am able to tailor my approach to your needs and preferences. I have a person-centred base, working alongside you in your process and experiences. I integrate aspects of other theoretical models, including aspects of Transactional Analysis, CBT, mindfulness, and use of creative media, allowing the flexibility to be creative in working intuitively to meet the unique needs of each client.

I have experience of working with a range of clients, in various settings, and am comfortable in working with a brief counselling approach, working with specific therapeutic aims over a set timeframe, or an open-ended approach. I have experience of working with adults, children and young people.

I have experience of working with clients in my private practice, as well as in my work as a school’s sessional counsellor, offering a counselling service to students and to staff members.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked for a number of years as a secondary school teacher. This provided me with valuable experience of working within an educational establishment, offering me insight into the student experience, and also the expectations, pressures and issues faced by staff.

My first session

I believe it’s important to find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with. I usually offer a free brief telephone consultation to clients, before first meeting face to face. This gives us a chance to introduce ourselves, and it’s also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.

The first session in an initial assessment session where I will have some questions for you, to find out a bit about what brings you to counselling at this time, and what you are hoping that counselling can help or support you with. I may ask you to say a little bit about what you are looking for from counselling, but if you don’t have a clear idea of this at the moment, it’s not a problem, as often this becomes clearer as the work progresses. You may also have some questions for me, as we explore how we might work together.
