About me and my therapy practice

I am a friendly experienced (16 years and counting) BACP Accredited Counsellor and Counselling Psychologist (in Training) who operates from a fully serviced office close to Manchester's Piccadilly Station. I have, since I was very young, been interested in what makes people tick and that is why I chose Psychology as my first degree. After a stint as an Army Officer and then a Recruitment Consultant I landed back in the world of counselling and psychology by joining an Employee Assistance Work based counselling organisation. I worked in that industry for over 13 years before branching out as a private practitioner, having gained my counselling qualifications many years earlier.

My main areas of speciality have traditionally been counselling in the LGBT, Human Rights (with victims of torture/serious trauma) and Workplace arenas but I have counselled outside of these with young people and Groups as well. As well as my main counselling qualifications

I am now also an accredited EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Europe practitioner and this is a particularly good NICE recommended therapy for PTSD, complex PTSD and trauma. Please note my fees are higher for delivery of EMDR since it is a highly specialist therapeutic model.

Always happy to have a free initial consultation/assessment to see whether we are a fit and then take things from there.

My first session

In the first session we will be mainly running through our counselling contract together, which sets out how we will work together. On top of that I will ask you to fill in an outcome measure questionnaire that gives us a feel for where you are psychologically in that 1st session. We then repeat it at the end of therapy to see what movement you have made. I will also request some basic demographics and your GP details in that 1st session. The rest of the session will be you outlining your background and what has brought you to therapy.
