About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Gemma. A qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in East London and West Essex.
I offer a warm and non-judgmental space for you to explore any difficult thoughts or feelings you’re experiencing. I believe that connection is key, so I will work to create an environment of safety and trust where we can build a therapeutic relationship together. This empathetic relationship will act as a base on which we can work collaboratively to achieve your goals and instigate long-lasting change.
The emotional difficulties and mental health challenges I work with include depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship and attachment issues, loss (in all forms), and trauma. However, my passion is working with mothers in the perinatal period and beyond, particularly on feelings of failure, guilt, 'not being enough' perfectionism, stress and overwhelm, and loss of identity.
I don't believe there is one style of therapy that fits all.
As an integrative therapist, I have received training in a range of modalities (styles of therapy), which means we can decide together the best approach to suit you.
You are the expert in your life. So you will know the direction you wish us to take therapy and the pace you wish to go. For this reason, I remain flexible offering both long-term and short-term sessions, with a varied frequency (weekly, fortnightly and monthly maintenance sessions).
My first session
I offer free 20 minute introductory phone calls, so we can discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and you can make a more informed decision about whether I'm a good fit.
Should you wish to proceed, I will ask you to complete a core 10 assessment so we can monitor your progress together throughout therapy. We will then spend our first session discussing your difficulties in more depth, and your expectations and preferences for therapy. This is so I can formulate the best approach for you. However, this is a work in progress and we will review every six sessions or so, so you can feedback what you think is working well plus anything you'd like to add or change.
