About me and my therapy practice
I'm a qualified Integrative Counsellor with a Person Centred approach, a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I've worked in project management, marketing and education for 20 years.
I'm interested in people, their experiences and their stories. I've enjoyed a career built on connecting with people, effective communication, and the ability to create strong working relationships.
I am interested in finding common ground with the people I meet, but my counselling style is more about embracing differences and working with empathy and curiosity to gain a deeper understanding of what life is like for you.
The therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is unique; it's a professional arrangement with ethical and practical boundaries in place, but what's shared within sessions can feel much more personal, vulnerable and emotional. I try to bring the two sides of the relationship together, working with professionalism as well as warmth and compassion.
Practice description
I provide remote and in-person counselling sessions, working online or from a private therapy room in central Reading.
My counselling approach (Person Centred) ensures you are kept at the heart of the counselling work. You decide what you want to talk about in sessions and the feelings you'd like to explore. I don't offer 'fixes' to your problems and I won't direct or advise, but I might gently challenge you to enable you to gain more insight, I use a range of tools/techniques to suit your individual needs.
I'll create a confidential and non-judgmental environment so that you can feel safe, supported and able to express your thoughts and emotions even if at times, this might feel tough. I hope that through growing a trusted and collaborative relationship, you'll feel heard and empowered to regain control, find clarity and make any changes that feel right for you.
My first session
I offer a free initial consultation call (phone/online).
This call is an opportunity for us to start to get to know each other, for you to share what's brought you to counselling, for me to explain the process and for us to get a sense of how we'd work together.
If you decide to move forward with counselling with me, we will spend some of the first session talking through our shared working agreement together, which covers the boundaries of the counselling relationship such as confidentiality and ethical practice as well as the more practical aspects; fees, cancellation, venue and session time.
