About me and my therapy practice
I have over 20 years’ experience of supporting individuals through life’s difficulties and wanting positive change.
My Counselling qualifications and specific career journey began in 2007 where I experienced illness and where I required a career change. I was passionate about continuing to work with individuals through life's difficulties and to ethically support in reaching their full potential and so sought to embark on amalgamating my previous careers, passion, and integrity. I have always felt it a privilege to work with, and witness change and growth with individuals, no matter their age, difference, or diverse area of life (not extensive).
Life can be stressful, overwhelming, and tough at times and you may find yourself feeling confused and anxious; in conflict with what to do, or where to go. It may be that you aren't handling day to day tasks as well as you used to, that relationships are becoming difficult and you are feeling lonely, isolated, losing direction; 'nothing makes sense,' and you are 'watching the days pass by'.
Taking that first step in reaching out for help and support can, for some, be the most difficult step.
Finding that one person who will accept you and your vulnerability with compassion, value and hear you, who will respect your individuality, someone who will not judge or criticise your life’s decisions or experiences and someone that will be openly honest with reflection is a difficult process where trust becomes both an implicit and explicit challenge.
It is difficult to trust when you are experiencing emotional conflict or difficulty, and it takes time for a trusting and honest relationship to develop. When you have found that trusting person, the ethical, professional therapist, and the conditions are right, over time, that is where movement and change can happen, where we become able to make sense of our experience and world around us; our future.
My work is from a humanistic approach where I believe in our human potential and capacity to reach both self-acceptance and growth and in providing a compassionate and safe environment to support your journey.
I can provide you with a private, warm and comfortable space (indoors/outdoors), your space, to journey through, explore and unravel the complexities of often confusing and (painful) conflicting feelings, thoughts and emotions, and more often than not, resulting uncomfortable behaviours. I would hope to provide you with a trusting, empathic, compassionate and valuing relationship utilising the necessary processes which would lead to an awareness, an understanding and discovery of what is going on for you, therefore, becoming an enabling journey of acceptance, self-awareness, integrity and growth.
During our initial session and with open dialogue, we would be able to identify which approach to therapy may suit you best with your journey, whether that might be using creative techniques, Imagery, Transactional Analysis, CBT techniques, or, by just sitting, listening and being with you from a Person Centred perspective.
At times, your journey could be uncomfortable and challenging, but I hope that within our therapeutic relationship that we would be able to work our way through to a place of sitting more comfortable within discomfort. It might take time and courage to reach this place within, but the journey will be rich in self-understanding and discovery which may lead to having a wider effect on those around you.
My first session
Our first 30 miute session is free and provides an opportunity introduce each other. It is an opportunity for you to ask questions about me and my practice, and to see how I work within my ethical professional capacity and practice standards.
I am an integrative counsellor and combine the humanistic Person Centred, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive behavioural, Mindfullness and humanistic creative approaches.
Every one of my client’s situations are different and my approach and work with them has been ethically tailored to suit their needs and comfort.
It is Ok to embrace the initial part of the journey to supportively identify which approach fits you best, and I am happy to respectfully explore that process, with you and for you.
We will discuss our working legal contract as well as safety, data protection and appointment information.
If you are considering Counselling/Psychotherapy, you can email or phone me to make an initial appointment.
