About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome. I'm so pleased you're taking a look at my page and considering counselling.

I'm Sharon. I work with women, men and teenagers but I specialise in supporting young women, under the age of 45, with anxiety problems, self-critical thoughts and low self-worth. The aim is to work together to improve your mental health, relationships and confidence.

Difficult mother-daughter relationships are a particular interest.

Supporting parents who are struggling with a young person's mental health or behaviour is another client group I particularly enjoy working with. The aim is to help you to cope better and understand and improve your own emotional life and well being.

My offer includes sharing healthy coping strategies to help relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress and trauma, when needed.

My experience includes many years as an Anxiety UK-approved therapist, at Mind and Cambridge University. I also set up and ran a counselling service in a girls school for 7 years.

I have a postgraduate qualification in working with young people, an enhanced DBS certificate and recent safeguarding training (I'm a safe pair of hands with young people).

I'm fully trained in the NHS-approved EMDR trauma therapy and have specialist training in eating disorders.

You may find the same patterns repeating and want support to change them or you may feel stuck and unsure how to move forward in your life  in a more healthy way.

Sometimes clients come to me for support with a major life event, decision or transitional stage - exams, leaving school, deciding to start a family, a change of career, children leaving home, divorce or retirement - other times it may be around more day-to-day problems.

If you would like to learn more or to book a first session, please give me a call, email or message me for a no-obligation conversation about how I may be able to help.

Practice description

People tell me I'm easy to talk to and they feel safe with me. Having been there myself, I know it can sometimes take courage to contact a counsellor. You may feel worried you will be judged or wonder whether your situation warrants counselling. I offer a relaxed and friendly approach.

Everyone is different so I tailor my therapeutic approaches and techniques to best suit you - and I listen to your feedback to learn what is helping.

My clients include those with lots of counselling experience, first timers and people who have had poor experiences of therapy in the past.

My clients' ages range from 13 to 80!

Call, email or message me for a friendly, no-obligation conversation about how I may be able to help.

My first session

The first session is a relaxed getting-to-know each other experience.

It will be an opportunity for us to look at what is bringing you into counselling, what you are hoping to get from it and how I may be able to help. I will ask you some questions and explain how our sessions together will work.

I take a few notes in this session to help me remember all the important information you are sharing. I may also suggest some ideas, techniques or creative activities you can try between sessions, if you wish to, to help your mental health.

Like all our sessions, it will be 50 minutes long and towards the end you can decide if you would like further regular sessions. There will be no obligation to go forward if you don't wish to.

If you do decide you would like to work together, I will go through my counselling agreement and explain both of our responsibilities. Feel free to give me a call, email or message me for a no-obligation conversation about how I may be able to help.
