About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and insured Counsellor and Psychotherapist, trained in a Humanistic/Integrative approach. This means that we believe that as human beings we all have an innate ability and desire to grow and flourish. Like a seedling will always grow towards the light, we as humans will always seek to evolve through our self- actualising tendency.
I work with anxiety, depression and bereavement, in a way that enables you to see that you are a resilient and capable human being and though you may be feeling lost and confused right now, the fact that you are here, reading this, shows that. I can help and support you to nourish and nurture your inner strength and resilience.
Though often in Counselling, therapists focus on the past, what has happened to you and how you feel about it today. Though we will look at that, my focus of therapy is more focused and where you are today and, importantly, where you hope to be tomorrow, and where there is hope, there is healing.
Other than my skills as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I have also much experience of working with anxiety and depression as a Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner. These skills can be off great benefit to enable you to experience deep relaxation and creative visualisations which can open up a new world of knowing and understanding for you.
I also have training in Mindfulness and Therapeutic Coaching which together can bring a beneficial resource in supporting you and enabling you to work towards a much brighter future.
When we can work face to face, I work from The Magnolia Therapy Centre at Mapperley Park. This is a converted house which rents out its many lovely rooms to therapists, not just for Counselling but also Massage and other Complementary Therapies. It has been around for a long time and has a very good reputation, and a warm and inviting feel to it.
If you prefer, I also offer online therapy, which you can access via the comfort and ease of your own home. There are certain rules we have to follow but a lot of clients prefer to work this way and it works well.
I also offer telephone counselling for those that do not wish to do face to face or online therapy.
My first session
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other better. It is a time for me to gather information as to the issues we are working with, where you are now, what your goals for the future are and how you will know that therapy has been successful for you. It is an opportunity for you to let it all out and for me to listen and to understand how I can help you. It is also time for you to assess whether you feel that I am the therapist that you wish to work with.
