About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Grace and I am a counsellor who provides sessions in person, online and over the phone. Thank you for taking the time to have a look at my page and please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange a free phone call to help you find out if I am the right person for you.
I am very friendly and easy to talk to and believe I can provide a safe and calm environment for you. I will not offer advice and will not judge you. I will give you the opportunity to explore what your true needs are and help you learn to make them priority.
I believe that the most effective part of my practice is building a relationship with and getting to know you as an individual and seeing things from your perspective. This trusting relationship is the foundation from which you can explore how you really feel and how your true feelings have been hidden, forgotten or not noticed.
My training was focussed on person centred values which means I am here to support you to discover your own solutions and prompt you to ask yourself what it is you really want, thus making you, your needs and your values the priority.
I am qualified as an Integrative counsellor because I can integrate other methods (Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic Therapies) where necessary to help the therapy progress. This might mean, for example that we look at the ways that your childhood experiences are part of what is happening for you as an adult and consider how this is or isn't useful.
Therapy sessions can be delivered in person in a private room in Gateshead Health Centre or Wrekenton Health Centre depending on your preference.
I am also able to offer sessions online or over the phone. This allows you to access the service without having to leave your home, reducing any further costs in travel or parking. With this in mind it is important to consider your privacy. You will need to have sessions at a time and place where you will feel comfortable to talk.
To ensure appointments are always private and secure, I use the VSEE app to deliver my appointments and kindly ask for you to download this app while we are working together. I can send you some very simple instructions about how this works when we confirm our first appointment and will help where possible to make this an easy process where all you have to do is click a button to join the online call.
My first session
It's normal to feel nervous when trying something different and counselling is no exception! The first session is designed with this in mind and so there are no trick questions and I will do my best to help you feel calm and actually enjoy the appointment.
Part of person centred counselling is about working at the client's pace and so I will not ask you to share anything you are not ready to. The first session is an opportunity for me to get to know you and you to get to know me a bit more. We can then outline what it is that you hope to achieve from your sessions and what you think it would look like when you no longer need to work with me.
