About me and my therapy practice
My approach to counselling emphasises a warm and collaborative relationship, allowing a space which feels safe to explore difficult feelings while challenging some of the thoughts and behavioural patterns that can stand in the way of making the changes needed to experience a more fulfilling way of living.
As a psychodynamic counsellor, my approach is particularly informed by how past relationships and emotional development affect our present lives, behaviours and negative perceptions.
It may be that you just feel sad or stuck, lonely, stressed or have experienced difficult circumstances and feel unable to cope.
I have experience working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, abuse, relationship difficulties and issues around sexual identity and intimacy as well as low self -esteem.
Having worked in low cost counselling services and charities, I have a particular interest in exploring how social issues affect mental health and wellbeing.
My first session
Initially, I offer a free 30-minute consultation by phone to briefly explore your situation and to answer any questions you have. This is a very open conversation with no expectation or obligation.
The next step is to meet face-to-face or online for one or two assessment sessions, to think further about what you want to get from therapy and to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you.
