About me and my therapy practice
I’ve been working as a therapist since 2011, graduating with a master’s degree in counselling from the University of East Anglia. I work predominantly with adults but also have considerable experience as a counsellor for adolescents and younger adults.
If you’re distressed or confused, exhausted by carrying on, or looking to understand yourself better, counselling is a way to help yourself and work towards the change you want. We’ll begin wherever you are and work together at your own pace on what is most important to you.
I’m experienced in providing both short-term solution-focused work and mid- to long-term therapy. It is important to me that you’re benefiting from counselling no matter how many sessions you have.
I am especially interested in how counselling can initiate and support processes of change and development at all ages. My approach focuses on the quality of the relationship between client and therapist - the heart of the counselling process.
I offer in-person and remote counselling. When meeting in-person I use comfortable, spacious, rooms at The Norwich Wellbeing Centre in central Norwich.
Practice description
We are relational beings with an innate need for connection. In counselling I provide a space where you can explore and connect with yourself at a depth not often accessible in our everyday lives. Where there is the freedom to ask the questions that will bring understanding and the safety to work with the things that are making you unhappy and holding you back.
Person-Centred therapy is an approach which emphasises our inner resources and readiness to embody our true selves when we are genuinely heard, seen, and accepted. Through this experience counselling offers a healing and empowering opportunity to reveal and work with the hidden, outdated, and unhelpful concepts we have of ourselves.
These concepts lie at the heart of many mental health diagnoses, addictions, and emotional, psychological, and relational difficulties we experience. They trap us in thoughts and behaviours that frustrate us and cause us pain. In counselling we safely and creatively explore this area of self - helping you to understand and move beyond old patterns and towards healing and growth.
My first session
You can come as you are, and you’ll have the time and space to talk about whatever you want to share. We’ll discuss what brings you to counselling, what you’d like help with, and how I can best support you. It’s also a time for us to get a sense of whether we are a good fit as therapist and client. At the end of the session we’ll talk about what it’s been like for you and how you’re feeling. You can then go away and think about whether you’d like to continue.
