About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Matt. I'm an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, which means I use a variety of approaches, with a background in supporting people through physical and psychological challenges. I have worked as a mentor with young adults excluded from mainstream education, and currently volunteer as a grief companion attached to a hospice.

Practice description

What might bring you to therapy?

I think that being human can be a mysterious and unsettling business, and that everyone benefits from counselling at some point. There are times when your voice needs to be heard in a safe and supportive place.

You may be experiencing a particularly tough period in your life, where relationships are unsatisfying and you feel unloved, with a sense of pain and isolation and a longing for more. You may feel a deep grief or sense of loss, without a clear idea about its origin. In our work together, I promise to offer you a committed, non-judgmental relationship, a safe space for us to explore your story from a deeper place, and an opportunity to reflect on meaning, beyond everyday identities. Creating and maintaining fulfilling and loving relationships is something we all aspire to, but this is never easy. Some of your fears and anxieties may be related to our very fragile existence as humans on planet earth in these challenging times. Can we find a way of facing this without feeling overwhelmed?

Some experiences and memories can be felt deeply in our bodies, and at times I might suggest using Focusing, which is body memory work, for you to explore some of the most stuck and difficult areas.

We can either work longer-term or short term. Generally, I would suggest an initial contract of six sessions and for the work to be reviewed after that time.

I offer an initial free 20-minute Zoom or phone call. I like to work in-person (London Bridge, SE1) but I can also offer online sessions, if you prefer. I charge £55 per 50-minute session.

Working with adults, and young adults.

I will usually respond to all inquiries within 24 hours.

My first session

Our first session consists of us discussing a questionnaire that you will have completed beforehand, and it’s a time for you to ask any questions and for us to consider your needs and expectations. It’s also a time for us to get to know each other and decide if we want to work together.
