About me and my therapy practice
I am currently offering counselling to individuals and couples.
The aim of the work is to provide a confidential space in which clients can explore what is not working for them, to untangle some obstacles to their happiness, explore ways to overcome those obstacles, and improve communication skills with themselves and others. I do offer practice to do at home between sessions if people want that, and I also work with the model of Nonviolent Communication to help develop authentic self-expression and effective listening skills and empathy.
My practice is face to face and online, and I have some availability in the weekdays, daytime, and evening.
After making an appointment, I will send client or clients a contract outlining the way I work.
Client or clients will then come to my practice in person at the appointed hour, or contact me using Zoom, WhatsApp or FaceTime.
My first session
The aim of the first session is to confirm the contract between us, at the same time finding out whether working together would be a good 'fit'. This would involve my saying a brief introduction about myself, and invite any questions about my background, practice, and experience.
I then invite client or clients to tell me why they contacted a Counsellor, and why at this particular moment - what precipitated the contact, what the main problem is, and what are their goals.
When we have explored that, there are standard questions that I will ask in order to find out more about the clients' lives, and then by the end of the session, summarise what I have heard, check for understanding and say what kind of support I could offer.
It would then be in the clients' hands to say whether they would like to make a further appointment, or go away and think about it, and contact me later.
