About me and my therapy practice

If you are feeling alone and struggling to cope or you want to make important decisions or changes in your life, talking to a compassionate, experienced counsellor can really make a difference.

Who I am

I am a BACP-registered, insured Person-Centred Counsellor with 28 years’ combined experience as a professional counsellor and registered social worker. I offer counselling on a wide range of issues to adults and young people aged 13+ from a private, dedicated therapy room at my home in Warrington.

Alongside my core professional qualifications, I have attended extensive relevant short courses and workshops, including university mentoring; hypno-psychotherapy; CBT; PTSD; suicidal clients; child protection; domestic violence; working with Autism, and diversity issues.

My professional experience

I bring experience of working with males and females from all walks of life, cultures and orientations. I know from my substantial work in the field of abuse and family conflict/breakdown that, with safe and compassionate support, people can overcome the most difficult of challenges. In addition to Private Practice, my experience includes:

• Counselling in a male prison

• Sexual abuse and domestic violence recovery services

• Therapy in specialist (SEMH) secondary education

• Online mental health support

• Bereavement co-ordinator role

• Adult helpline services

• Child protection social work

• Residential social work with young adults

Practice description

How I work

The quality of the counselling relationship is important to me. I take special care to create a genuine connection with you that fosters trust and openness. My clients often feedback that they experience me as warm, accepting and down-to-earth. Many are surprised how easy they found it to share very private thoughts and feelings.

My commitment is to provide a safe and confidential environment for you to share your struggles. No judgements or criticism. No hurrying you or asking you probing questions. We work at your pace to your agenda with what you choose to bring.

Along the way, I may gently challenge thoughts and behaviour that seem to hold you back, and invite you to consider new possibilities. Always, though, with respect and empathy for your unique way of understanding and living your life – and the time it may take you to get to where you want to be. Wherever that is, I won’t try to change you.

My aim is to enhance your confidence and trust in yourself so you are able to identify what you need in your life going forward and make the changes you are looking for. Changes that allow you to live to your potential as the person you want to be, experiencing your life and relationships more peacefully and with greater joy.

Counselling Specialisms

As well as working with the issues listed below, I specialise in supporting recovery from a difficult start in life and the lasting impact of trauma and abuse. Whether this is feelings of depression, anger and mistrust or staying in things that are personally unfulfilling or harmful. Many clients come wanting to re/discover what’s important to them and to grow confidence to express and pursue their own needs and wishes.

I am experienced in supporting clients with Autism and associated social, emotional and communication needs.

My first session

My Fees

Offering flexible daytime and evening (weekday) appointments, my charges for a one-hour session are £45.00 (£35.00 for Student Counsellors and 18+ in Higher Education).

I may have concessionary places available for those who would struggle to afford the usual rate. Please ask.

Introductory Session

An Introductory Session is simply a (face-to-face) meeting to see if we would work well together. There is no pressure or obligation to take up counselling with me.

We explore what brings you to therapy, what you would like to gain from sessions and my ‘working agreements’ which covers issues such as confidentiality, privacy and cancellations.

If we agree we would like to work together, a next session may be booked at a mutually convenient time.

Initial consultation

An introductory session is charged at my usual hourly rate. But I am always happy to discuss your needs and answer questions before you commit to booking.

Whether you are here for yourself or for someone you care about, please call me on 075378 06018 or submit an enquiry for a free telephone consultation, which lasts approximately 30-minutes, or for us to chat via email.
