About me and my therapy practice

I am a Warrington-based MBACP Counsellor providing counselling for adults and young people aged 13 and over. Professional, down-to-earth and easy to talk to, I work to high standards, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. My counselling approach is Person-Centred. This offers a relaxed, non-judgemental and empathic space to explore difficulties, with a counsellor who is real in the relationship; open and honest in a supportive way.

With 26+ years' combined experience as a counsellor and former social worker, my work has brought me into contact with a wide range of personal issues. It has taught me that, with support, people can overcome the most difficult of circumstances and go on to live happier and fulfilling lives.

By way of background, I worked for eight years as a counsellor in secondary education, supporting staff and pupils, before leaving to focus on private work. In the coming months, I will be combining this with a part-time role with university students.

My prior experience includes working for Barnardo's with individuals and families affected by sexual abuse/assault and domestic violence, counselling offenders in prison, school counselling with primary aged children, bereavement counselling, and remote support to adults and young people for the NSPCC. I have been a frontline child protection social worker. I have also supported young people in 'care' in varied contexts, including for Action for Children' residential and advocacy services.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss your needs or book a first session, and to request written information, such as counselling agreements and my privacy notice.  This may help you take that first step in moving forward.

Practice description

I am able to draw on a number of therapeutic approaches I have explored or used in my career. This is particularly the case when working with young people where I might combine talking therapy with therapeutic activities.  I do however primarily offer Person-Centred Counselling.

I work with clients as individuals, without labels or diagnoses, on how they are right now and what's important to them.  My approach is informal, friendly.  I place a lot of emphasis on making sure clients feel comfortable and safe.  I go at their pace.

On a practical note, I work from a private room at my home in South Warrington.  The entrance is separate to my home and parking is available.

I am able to offer daytime and evening appointments.

My first session

A first session is an opportunity for you (or your child) to meet with me, ask any questions and see if I'm the right person for your situation.  We explore reasons and hopes for attending counselling and the way in which I work.  Also, the 'counselling agreement', which covers issues such as confidentiality.

There is no obligation to continue following this meeting or at any point in the process.
