About me and my therapy practice
I’m Ewen - welcome to Overstone Counselling. I provide a convenient online and telephone counselling service for individuals wanting the flexibility of a beneficial process that fits around existing commitments, removing the need, cost, and time constraints of travel. I will work with you to tailor my techniques to your specific, individual needs, promoting wellness across mental, physical, and emotional health.
I believe there is no single approach in counselling and psychotherapy that matches all situations; I work using a range of models, theories, and processes, providing education and insight where possible. You are unique, and I will work with you to tailor my technique to match your individual needs; I will be led by you and what matters to you, supporting you throughout your counselling.
I am now pleased to also offer Walk & Talk Therapy, combining the conventional outcomes of indoor therapy with the known benefits of connecting with the natural world.
I specialise in working with anxiety and depression; panic/anxiety attacks; low self-esteem and low self-confidence; relationship issues; work-related stress; self-injury/self-harming and sleeping difficulties/insomnia. I take an active role, sharing self-help tools and techniques to support your goals.
You may be feeling anxious and filled with panic, or unable to sleep with thoughts racing. Perhaps you are struggling to communicate, withdrawing from life, filled with feelings of sadness. Maybe you feel nobody cares and nobody listens, or feel no matter what you do, it is not good enough.
• discover ways to feel more confident in yourself; be less critical and feel more positive; tackle challenges that feel overwhelming; and develop an improved understanding of yourself
• explore why you may be lacking in energy or finding it difficult to make decisions, and support you reconnecting with your family, friends, and social activities
• identify ways to feel less worried and manage the sense of panic that can feel so overwhelming
• seek alternative ways to manage the deep distress, feelings of sadness, emptiness and emotional pain that is relieved through self-injury / self-harming
• understand the complex and painful emotions you feel when you experience a loss, whether it’s sudden or anticipated; a family member; relationship; job or pet
I offer a free, initial 30-minute telephone or Zoom consultation which provides an opportunity to introduce ourselves, understand what you want to achieve from counselling, and answer any questions you may have. We will also discuss how we will work together and how often we meet; there is no obligation following the consultation.
Weekdays: £60.00 for 50 minutes (a therapeutic hour)
Weekends: £70.00 for 50 minutes (a therapeutic hour)
Sessions are payable by Bank Transfer, 24 hours in advance to confirm your appointment
My first session
Our first session together provides an opportunity to understand what brings you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. During this session, I will ask a number of questions to better understand and decide if we will be comfortable working with one another, that the most appropriate type of support can be offered, and I will also explain my ways of working.
You have the right to ask anything you wish to know about my experience or qualifications and to question anything you may not understand. The aim of this session is to agree our framework and establish our therapeutic relationship. If you feel therapy may be beneficial and choose to continue, we will also discuss how we will work together, how often we meet, session fees, all of which will be included in our working contract.
