About me and my therapy practice

(I now offer online video or phone sessions.)

If you suffer from Anxiety, then this may be intensified during the virus Lockdown. Anxiety can be exhausting and debilitating. It can feel as though your energy to do things and make new things happen for yourself is drained. You may find yourself keeping your feelings of panic a secret or that others can't understand what it's like for you. When you feel overwhelmed it can help to share and talk about this in counselling so that you can find your way through it.

Living in a difficult or abusive relationship could also be intensified and more unsafe during this lockdown period. This can apply in a couple relationship or if you are in a family or household situation that is very upsetting. For the moment, your ways of getting distance from others in the house, is more limited than it may ever have been.Through counselling, voicing your anxieties or even panic, is a first step towards grounding yourself, being heard and making good choices.

For Individuals, Young People and Couples, help with:

Phobias, Compulsive Behaviour, Self Harming, Anger management, Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Eating disorders, Bereavement, Depression, Addiction, Dissociation, Physical and Mental abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Paranoia.

Whether you have had counselling before or this is your first time, an introductory session offers you the chance to see how counselling feels so that you can decide if it is right for you.

Practice description

I work in private practice and currently by video link or by phone. Outside of these times of the virus, I have a custom-built counselling room with facilities and wheelchair access in my garden. There is a separate entrance from the house, to access the counselling room. This is via a driveway to the side of the house, where there is a garden gate.

The counselling room is a light and comfortable setting, which is also safe and confidential.

My first session

I work in a relaxed, conversational way and will make sure you feel as comfortable as possible with me, as we meet for the first time. In my experience, clients find it a relief to have counselling and share what they are going through, especially when it has been carried alone, sometimes for a long time. During the first sessions we will talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you help you would like to get from counselling.

Some people introduce themselves to me and their dilemmas and start in straightaway. Others prefer me to prompt them with introductory questions. Either way, I ensure that we cover the ground of an introductory session and that we put together a 'panoramic' view of your situation. We initially also sketch in your history and family of origin details, so that you can give me a context and a way of beginning to know your unique circumstances.

The first session gives you a chance to see what working with me would be like and to decide if you would like continuing sessions. By the second or third session if you continue, we will talk about whether it feels like short-term or longer-term work. I will give guidance but the decision about this will be yours.
