About me and my therapy practice

So often, we only have a sense of things not being ‘right’; and we keep going, in the hopes that it will right itself in time. Sadly, that doesn’t always happen. Counselling can give you the opportunity to explore issues to better understand what is going on and the possibility of changing or adapting your circumstances.

I work as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, believing that many current issues are the result of difficulties experienced in childhood, compounded through coping mechanisms that no longer serve their original function, and continue into adulthood, often shown in relationships with others. I blend a combination of therapies theoretically, together with practical strategies and affirming techniques, enabling me to tailor-make my counselling to each person’s individual needs. I offer a respectful, client-led person-centred approach that conforms to the ethical practice of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, of which I am a registered member.

Practice description

Negotiating the post Covid-19 pandemic climate, in addition to offering face-to-face sessions, I offer telephone and online counselling via Zoom, a secure platform that enables us to talk together in an encrypted secure environment, without the current risks of face to face contact. It does make counselling a definite option to consider, if face to face counselling is not possible for you.

I still try to keep my counselling room as safe as I can for us both, with an efficient air purifier, and can put up a transparent screen between us if that helps you feel safer.

My first session

In our first session, we will talk about what brings you to counselling and what you are looking to achieve from the process.

You will be able to ask any questions about coming to counselling with me, and your expectations.

We will also consider whether we both feel comfortable to work together to achieve your desired outcome, and how we might do so.  We can then both decide whether we would like to book further sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified CPCAB L6 Certified Clinical Supervisor.

I supervise counsellors working with adults over 18.

Whilst I practise as an integrative counsellor, I do not specify one approach that colours my supervisory practice - and I know I am still learning to become a better, more effective, more professional practitioner. My hope is both I and my supervisee will enjoy and grow through the experience of working together.

Practice description

Using the Hawkins & Shohet seven-eyed model of supervision, I attempt to work authentically as a supervisor, to consider the context in which clients', supervisees' and supervisors' ideologies are formed and influenced.

I attempt to take into account the ethical, professional principles and guidelines surrounding the practice of effective supervision, using my skills, strengths, knowledge and weaknesses, aware of all the spoken and unspoken processes that come into play.

Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Phenomenological, Psychodynamic
