About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
I’m a psychotherapist and professional wellbeing coach helping clients make real sustainable change. When our relationship with ourselves is happy and healthy we live with more confidence and much less anxiety.
Do you want to take better care of your emotional health and wellbeing?
I am here ready to help you move forward and live the life you want.
Whatever has brought you here, whatever your reasons for seeking support, and whatever you are experiencing just now, there is something different beyond your present experience.
Whatever your struggles about how you are feeling about yourself, or how you are overdoing alcohol or food, whatever you are wanting to change, reach out and contact me.
In life’s lottery, we all land in our own unique place with our one-off particular combination of nature, nurture, experiences within relationships, and exposure to different influences.
We all have our individual capacity to find our way in life and cope with the challenges we face. Some of us lose or haven’t yet found our direction or what best serves us, or we find ourselves stuck feeling compelled to use unhelpful ways to cope.
If you feel you can’t cope with life’s challenges and you want to find your way to feeling all is well, I am here to help you discover or recover your intrinsic wisdom and resilience and support you to thrive.
I will help you:
- Discover and make sense of your story and how you landed here
- Reframe and change how you feel towards yourself
- Gain the power to free yourself from unhelpful and unhealthy habits and practices which are holding you back
- Create a framework to support your genuine sense of self-worth, improve your self-esteem, take better self-care and move forward into a happier and healthier future
Do you want to:
- Like yourself and feel confident in the world
- Stop overeating or binge eating
- Discover the joy of sobriety
Reach out and let’s talk.
Practice description
I work in the North of England on the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire. Do you want to work online using Zoom or visit my office and work in person?
In my practice I offer four approaches to help clients make the changes they want to make:
- Psychotherapy
- Counselling
- Therapeutic coaching
- Coaching
Together we work out the best fit for you.
I work with compassion informed by and integrating evidence-based approaches always focussing on our relationship providing you with what you need, for however long you need, to get you to where you want to be.
Issues
Typically my clients want to work on:
- Self-worth and self-esteem
- Overdoing food and, or alcohol
- The challenges of living with ADHD
Knowledge
My practice is informed by and integrates several psychotherapy theories and approaches along with psychology and neuroscience.
The work
Regardless of the approach, I talk about what we do as work. Your part in this journey will be effortful and the work will be driven by you; the pace and direction will be determined by you. But I will be with you for every step.
Therapy and Coaching
I will be asking the right questions and expertly listening. I will be there with you when we look at the difficult stuff providing the therapeutic or coaching relationship you need. I will help you identify and change the detrimental patterns holding you back, suggesting tools and techniques, supporting you and guiding you on your journey.
I hope you reach out, Let's talk.
My first session
Before your first session we will have already spoken for between 15 and 30 minutes. Even in this short time you will have discovered things about me which may resonate with how other clients have described me. I am described as warm, kind, and genuine, a mixture of down-to-earth wisdom and insightful intelligence; and so very helpful.
When you book your first session I send email with everything you need to know and do before we meet including a guide about what to expect.
What to expect
We will have 75 minutes, a little longer than the usual hour.
It’s normal to begin your first session feeling a little nervous; it can feel weird and challenging to talk with a complete stranger about yourself and your life. I hope it helps to know, my clients tell me they begin to relax quite quickly once we get going.
Contracting – this is therapist speak for agreeing our understanding about the practicalities and boundaries we will follow. I send a copy for you to read in advance.
My questions and prompts – I will ask you to tell me about how you are doing at the moment and we will clarify together what you want our work to help you to change?
My thoughts about how we might work together – counselling, psychotherapy, therapeutic coaching, or coaching? We will talk about these approaches and decide together which path to take depending on your individual needs.
Check in - towards the end of our first session we will take some time to check in with your experience of talking with me and you can decide if you want to continue; it’s okay if you want to take some time to reflect before you decide too.
