About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome,
my name is Laura and I am an integrative counsellor. I am a registered member of BACP and I work with individual clients online.
Sometimes life presents us with challenges and we may feel stuck, powerless, depressed, anxious, and may not know where to turn.
At these times, it is important that we have a safe and non-judgmental space where we can reflect and explore how we feel, find what brings meaning to our lives, and make sense of whatever is preventing us from living to our full potential.
And yet, whilst life challenges are common, we all have different experiences, stories, cultures, values, and beliefs, which make us who we are and bring uniqueness to our lives. This is why in therapy it is so important for cousellors to be able to tailor our approach to the unique life experiences of our clients.
Throughout our shared journey, I will work with you and will be guided by a genuine desire to understand you. I will listen to you and your story with compassion and will use my experience and skills to support you in becoming aware of who you are and how you relate to the world - inside and outside - you. Understanding yourself better, in turn, will support you in exercising choice, becoming unstuck, gaining a sense of mastery over your life, and finding fulfillment in your relationships.
Taking the first step towards seeking support is a courageous decision. If you're ready to embark on this journey, please do get in touch.
To help you understand more what working with me may look like, I include some information about my practice.
Whilst I draw on different modalities, my approach firmly sits within the humanistic tradition. At the same time, I’m influenced by psychodynamic theory and pay attention to the unconscious forces that motivate us and the defenses we may resort to out of awareness.
It is my firm belief that human beings are capable of change and what change looks like is a fundamental part of the work we will do together. Even more, I believe that the most important part of our work is the alliance between client and therapist and that this alliance is the key to healing and reparation.
We will spend a bit of time looking at how your early life experiences may have influenced how you relate to yourself and the world today. We will try and identify patterns in your life to see if you find yourself often in the same situation, at work, or in relationships for example. By slowly shedding light on your behaviours, we will try and separate those that are still helpful from those that do not serve you well anymore so that you can choose differently. Guided by empathy and positive regard for you and your experience, I will support you in making sense of your story and bringing reparation where is needed.

In our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and what you would like to get out of it.
