About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I am Kelly and I am a registered and accredited counsellor with the BACP. I offer a welcoming and down-to-earth approach to therapy. I provide a confidential and non-judgemental space in which to explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviours, in order to better understand the relationship you have with yourself and with others.
I have extensive experience working with both young people (13+) and adults and like to work flexibly and collaboratively with you, tailoring therapy to your specific needs in order to find a way that works best for you to explore what's going on. For some that's talking, for others, talking can be tricky and doing something more creative can be helpful. Ultimately, I am led by you and what you feel comfortable with (with the odd gentle challenge every now and then).
My core training is person-centred but my experience over time in schools and private practice has led me to a more pluralistic approach, meaning I am able to draw on other widely accepted evidence-based methodologies whilst maintaining an equitable relationship with you that respects your individual needs.
Practice description
I bring my whole self to my work. I am present and open and will often share parts of me if I feel it will be of use to you or highlight a place where you feel stuck or feel alone.
I deeply consider my clients and the challenges they are facing and I am not easily daunted or shaken by what my clients bring. One of my core values is curiosity and this is how I approach what develops in the counselling room. I remain curious and open about things which seem impossible as well maintaining curiosity for those which may initially appear obvious. In this way, I hope to be able to better facilitate your exploration when working together.
I consider the therapeutic process to be a commitment from me, as your Therapist, to you and the process and also a commitment from you, as the Client, to yourself and our time together.
My first session
I offer a free, no obligation, initial assessment, at which point we can jointly decide if therapy with me is the right course of action for you. I offer this assessment over the phone for adults; for parents looking for support for adolescents, I offer a free parent pre-meeting, although this is not always necessary depending on the maturity of your child, and often an initial call is sufficient.
