About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Kes and I am a therapeutic counsellor. My core training is in humanistic, psycho-spiritual therapy. I am also trained and experienced in working with gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, and have worked in placements with adults and younger people experiencing mental health, family and relationship difficulties. Many of my clients are men. 

Practice description

During every session you'll have the opportunity to contemplate any issues that are affecting your overall happiness and well-being. We'll work together to create a balanced perspective that leaves you feeling empowered, resilient and more in touch with your inner capacity to cope with change, and lead your life wholeheartedly. 

My first session

Your first session will feel conversational, and friendly, with space to explore anything that you wish. I will empathise and support you with compassion, so you can make choices based on what you feel is right for you. Sometimes counselling may include cheering you on, sometimes it is simply someone to confide in, or to lean on in difficult times. Whatever it is that you require, let's arrange an initial chat for 10-20 minutes so that we can both get a sense of whether we'll work well together. This initial chat is complimentary, and at no cost to you.

Hi, I'm Kes and I warmly welcome you, whatever has brought you here, I offer a calm and relaxed space for you to arrive. 

People usually seek me out as their therapist because they want someone who will listen deeply and uplift them, rather than give heaps of advice or direct the conversation. I offer a personalised therapy experience that is simply about you, and guided by whatever you feel would be of benefit to discuss.

Counselling is your time, and your opportunity to look deeply into your life, and discover your own pathways forward that feel natural, and true to who you are.

Practice description

My core practice is transpersonal (psycho-spiritual) counselling. I have wide-ranging experience in clinical placements with adults and younger people, and work with a systemic understanding of collective trauma, neurodiversity and individual mental health.

Therapy is usually weekly at the same time each week, and may last 6 - 20 sessions or longer term. I also offer flexible, ad hoc counselling sessions.

Hi, I'm Kes. I'm a therapist, and someone who occasionally uses therapy myself, I know that sometimes it is not easy to reach out and ask for support; it is a leap of trust to open up about your thoughts and feelings.

I hope to support you to feel calm, and comfortable enough to address your issues, confront your emotions, and take care of your difficulties, so you can find some direction and way forward.

My approach is holistic and informed by integrative counselling training and experience in clinical practice with mental health and also personal development goals.

Practice description

I offer weekly or flexible therapy sessions for 30 to 50 minutes, online or by phone. There's no waiting room or need to travel here, so you can arrive feeling relaxed and comfortable. Bring a blanket and a cup of tea if you wish.

My first session

The first time we meet is an opportunity to explore your issues and develop a connection so we can get to know each other and how suitable we will be to work  together. Hello there,

Are you just looking for someone who will listen to you well enough, so you can unpack your issues, and really get to the bottom of how to create the changes that you need to make in order to make your life a bit simpler? 

It's time to let go of unnecessary stress, and do things differently for you. I'm an integrative counsellor, working with many different modalities suited to each individual client.

You may have heard of mindfulness, self-compassion, intentionality, and embodiment as strategies for self-care, healing, and living life with greater purpose and day-to-day wellbeing. These are some of the resources you can tap into in therapy.

Counselling is for mental health and personal development and can help you with:

  • feeling emotionally-reactive or highly-sensitive
  • susceptible to over-stimulation and overwhelm
  • quiet or struggling to set personal boundaries
  • unsure of how to connect with others or request support
  • feeling like an outsider in groups and struggling to belong
  • personal grief, sadness, loss and trauma
  • anxiety, worry, and low self-worth 
  • spiritual and philosophical beliefs or world-view

You may gain empowerment to find your voice, increase self-care, develop self worth and set personal boundaries. Some of the work may involve gaining perspective and changing how you relate to your own feelings, thoughts and emotions. Therapy may support you to boost your overall, holistic "whole person" well-being across all areas e.g. mental, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, physical, social and so on.


Practice description

Traditional therapy is long-term and may be 6 months to 2 years or longer. During long-term therapy, clients may experience several chapters of the work we do together, each one building on the foundation of the previous depth of healing.

I also work with clients who benefit from short-term therapy, which is 8 to 25 sessions, which can be a stand-alone course, or be a piece in a therapeutic relationship you can come back to when needed. Some clients only need a few sessions e.g. 1 to 3 in order to talk about a specific issue, and I offer 1 - 4 sessions of therapy for couples (LGBTQ+ affirmative) and families.

Sessions may be 30 minutes to 50 minutes. You may choose to reserve a regular slot at the same time once a week, or book sessions ad hoc i.e. as and when.

I understand that it's not an easy decision to find therapy. You may be here because something in your life is feeling really wrong, or maybe you're worried about your own sanity, feel like you're running out of options, or don't know how to make up your mind about choices. Life is rough sometimes.

Together we can talk through exactly what's going on, and what your strengths and values are, so that you can navigate through it based on your own internal compass.
