About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
I work collaboratively, which means that we will decide together what it is best for you and how.
Once you have contacted me we will agree on a good time for both of us to have a 15 min conversation to know a bit more about each other and think together whether we would like to have a first session via Skype, phone or WhatsApp facetime, if possible we can evaluate whether to meet in person, if allowed and beneficial. We will also discuss on how to think about a safe and confidential space for you to have therapy.
Practice description
The way I work is to combine your needs and goals for therapy together with my experience, the most recent research, your preferences and life circumstances. We will think together taking into account all those elements and identify what may be more appropriate and effective for you.
It can be difficult to predict how long therapy will take, it really depends on your needs, situation and story.Time to time we may decide to touch base and review where we are.
We will usually work together for a minimum of 12 sessions.
Psychodynamic Short Term Counselling: an agreed set of sessions
Psychodynamic On-going Counselling: open ended amount of sessions
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy): usually 10 – 18 sessions
My first session
The first couple of sessions are a bit different from Therapy. The are called assessment.
The assessment is a process that is done by both of us before beginning therapy.
It helps us to decide whether:
I am the right therapist for you
Online Therapy or In-person Therapy is the right choice for you
We both feel that working together will help you and how (Psychodynamically, CBT)
Whether or not you may get better help receiving support from other professionals/organisations, and should this be the case I will support you in this
The assessment process starts with an initial call, following which an Online Assessment Pack that contains some questions and a couple of questionnaires will be sent to a secure mail for you to complete before our initial appointments. I usually allow for one or two meetings of 50 minutes each for assessment.
During these meetings I will ask more information about you, your reasons for coming to therapy and what you hope to gain from therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to reflect on whether you would like to work with me.
Assessment is also an ongoing process that we will do together as well as when therapy is commenced. Consider it as a ‘touch base’ moment during our work. I may use questionnaires, but most of the time it will be a conversation.
If allowed and possible, we may agree to meet in person for assessment. This will always be accordingly with present professional bodies, NHS, government recommendations, guidance and rules, yours and mine sense of safety. To know a bit more on how this works please visit the in-person page of my website.
