About me and my therapy practice
Accredited BACP Counsellor, Accredited Europe EMDR Therapist , Certified Couples/Marriage Therapist, and Graduate Member of BPS.
1- INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
"Tara has been instrumental in one of the greatest shifts in my life. She has guided me with such grace & compassion ... and together we have processed my deepest wounds... I always feel safe & seen, able to reveal myself fully in a held space. A truly wonderful therapist & a very special human being." L.W.
I completed my first Masters degree in Psychology with a Distinction in 2009, and then continued my training by completing a post graduate degree in Psychological Studies and then Counselling and EMDR.
My training is an integrative model. This allows me to draw from a wealth of knowledge, practice and experience from different therapeutic schools, and I can therefore tailor each session to your individual need.
I am specialised in treatment of Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, PTSD, Relational issues including how one relates to the world around them and what other people can trigger in them.
2- COUPLES/MARRIAGE THERAPY
I work with all kinds of relationship based issues including difficulties between couples or conflict among family members.
I completed my first couples training course with the Tavistock Institute in 2016 and then advanced my knowledge and skills by becoming certified with the Grove Institute.
Very few relationships exist conflict-free, whether it’s the odd disagreement, repeatedly arguing or you’ve lost the fun element in your relationship - it’s natural to start to question its longevity. For many of us, our first instinct is to try and work through the problems alone, but it can be incredibly helpful to seek professional support.
Please see next section "Practice Description" to see how I work with individuals and couples.
Practice description
1- Couples Therapy:
The overall aim of couples counselling that I can help you with, includes:
- Understanding how external factors such as family values, religion, lifestyle and culture affect your relationship.
- Reflecting on the past and how it operates in the present.
- Communicating in a more constructive way.
- Learning why arguments escalate.
- Learning new ways of making ourselves understood by our partner/ family members.
- Negotiating and resolve conflicts where possible.
Here are the most common issues that I help my couples clients with:
- Lack of trust
- Betrayal or affair
- Jealousy
- Lack of communication
- Different sexual needs or other sexual issues
- Family conflicts
- Different goals and values
- Different parenting styles
"... Past therapies have left me feeling lost as the root of the problems were never addressed ... I am no longer controlled by the past. It has given me hope for the future that things can always be resolved". J.P.
2- Individual Therapy:
I will encourage you to work at your own pace and in depth within our therapeutic relationships, in order to support you in establishing rich and deep relationships within your life. I believe that being understood is a central part of the healing process. The therapeutic process can be painful and difficult, as well as rich and rewarding and I strive to work with compassion and empathy to create a safe and holding environment for our work together. In your assessment session, we will make a joint decision about your therapy plan so you will be clear about what is going to happen in your counselling sessions and how we will be working towards your goals. We will choose between CBT, Person Centred, EMDR, Part Works (Internal Family System), Psychodynamic or a combination of two, based on the issue that you would like to address.
