Practice description

1- Individual Therapy:

I will encourage you to work at your own pace and in depth within our therapeutic relationships, in order to support you in establishing rich and deep relationships within your life. I believe that being understood is a central part of the healing process. The therapeutic process can be painful and difficult, as well as rich and rewarding and I strive to work with compassion and empathy to create a safe and holding environment for our work together.

"... Past therapies have left me feeling lost as the root of the problems were never addressed ... After working with Tara, I am no longer controlled by the past. It has given me hope for the future that things can always be resolved." J.P.

"Tara has been instrumental in one of the greatest shifts in my life. She has guided me with such grace & compassion ... and together we have processed my deepest wounds... I always feel safe & seen, able to reveal myself fully in a held space. A truly wonderful therapist & a very special human being." L.W.

2- Couples Therapy:

Most couples are struggling because they don’t ask the right questions. In our work together I focus on helping you ask the right questions in order to get to the root of an issue to enable lasting change.

In my approach I am warm and empathetic yet direct. I focus on getting you to achieve your goals and to see the big picture. We will have a clear plan for each session with a regular evaluation on your progress.

Here are my areas of expertise.

- Communicating in a more constructive way

- Learning why arguments escalate

- Resolving conflicts

- Different parenting styles

- Different sexual needs or other sexual issues

- Lack of trust

- Betrayal or affair

- Reflecting on the past and how it operates in the present.

- Understanding how external factors such as family values and culture affect your relationship.

"Tara was very accurate in her feedbacks ... We left each session being inspired and motivated to make changes ..." P&N

My first session

I offer a 15 minute free video zoom call prior to any booking. In this meeting we discuss your needs and get a sense of each other. I will also answer any questions you may have. If we both feel that we are a good fit then we will proceed with an assessment session.

1- Individual therapy: How does it work?

In your first session, we will make a joint decision about your therapy plan so you will be clear about what is going to happen in your counselling and how we will be working towards your goals. We will choose one of the below approaches or a combination of them based on the issues you would like to address:

  • CBT
  • Person Centred
  • EMDR
  • Part Works (Internal Family System)
  • Psychodynamic (Attachment)

2- Couples therapy: How does it work?

I will invite you to take emotional risks and gradually come out of your comfort zone. I will be empathetic and understanding but I will also share my observations with you which occasionally can be challenging to hear. However, I believe that over time your painful patterns will shift if you let me coach you.

We aim for 6 sessions and then a review. Usually, 4 of the 6 sessions are couple based sessions. For the other 2 sessions, I may also offer a 1:1 individual session with each party should this be therapeutically beneficial to the ongoing relationship work. In this case, I would encourage that this is taken up by both parties. You can end therapy at any stage and I’d like you to continue to session 6 or further only if you see progress as a result of your sessions.

From the very first session we explore the issues that have brought you to therapy. At the end of session one, you will leave with a very effective skillset that has been designed for understanding and being understood. You will be asked to practice and develop this skillset between session one and two to further the significant impact it can have in your communication. I may also suggest other tasks between the sessions to challenge the old and ineffective pattern of behaviours.
