About me and my therapy practice
I have seven years' experience as a counsellor and it's a great privilege to help people make sense of their lives and move towards finding more happiness, self-worth and fulfilment. Issues such as anxiety, fear, depression, anger, relationship problems, low self-esteem and self sabotage usually have roots in childhood which is why I work in a psychodynamic way helping people to process childhood experiences that are still affecting them (often unconsciously) and helping them find ways to move forward and find the life they want. Listening is the most important part of my counselling sessions as many people have never had anyone to really listen to them and acknowledge what they have been through.
I also use EFT (emotional freedom technique) as part of my counselling work. EFT is a form of 'acupuncture for the emotions' and involves gently tapping on acupuncture points on the body during a counselling session. EFT and counselling work powerfully together to help you let go of old patterns of behaviour that may be holding you back from having the kind of life you would like. If you feel that you are carrying around a lot of baggage from your childhood then EFT may be for you.
My sessions are flexible and are between one to one and a half hours as this gives me more time to work in depth with clients. I am happy to work face to face, online or on the telephone although I prefer to use EFT either face to face or online.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute zoom or phone chat so a client and I can get to know each other a bit and decide if we would like to work together.
When a client comes to a first session I ask them to fill in a consultation form so I have some personal information, a bit of background, and details about medications etc. There is also a section on the form about which issues the client would like to work on. We then begin the session.
