About me and my therapy practice
My practice offers and specialises in short and long term work with a range of issues ranging from day to day problems through to complex conditions which impede the client's psychological well being and in some cases physical health.
An appropriate introduction for the client is achieved through thoughtful, experienced and detailed assessment which provides the client with a safe base to facilitate future work.
My theoretical work is informed and draws on Psychodynamic, Phenomenology and Existential thinking as well as Systemic Theory where appropriate.
Having worked for the NHS as both a Specialist Therapist and Substance Misuse Specialist for over 20 years and CAMHS as one of their honorary family therapists for 2 years I am now in private practice. I was the NHS Trust Lead for my team in issues relating to Domestic Abuse and Family Therapy.
I have an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Family and Couples Psychotherapy (2 years). I have further training in Mindfulness and CBT from Oxford Brookes.
Practice description
It is important at times of stress that you feel able to experience being supported and facilitated in sharing difficult feelings which impact on relationships with both self and others, whilst working on a way forwards in terms of change.
My approach to therapy is from a psychodynamic, existential and phenomenological perspective.
CBT is also an approach informing practice and is effective in exploring change in behaviours/belief systems.
I have specialised in addiction including drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, food and relationships for over 20 years and understand the impact that it can have on your life.
Anxiety, depression, low self esteem, domestic abuse
Relationship/family issues
Sexuality
Cultural issues
Bereavement
My first session
After responding by email to a client and sending a brief overview of working therapeutically I talk to the client for 30 minutes free of charge to see if they feel they would like to work together and the way forward in terms of structure/time etc. The client is given time to ask questions and we work collaboratively to agree a way forward i.e., number of sessions, reviews etc.
At present I am working from either Zoom, Team or telephone which will remain in addition to 1:1 once the current restrictions have eased.
What I can help with
Abuse, Addictions, AIDS/HIV, Anxiety, Bereavement, Cancer, Child related issues, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, Infertility, Loss, Personal development, Pregnancy related issues, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Trauma, Women's issues

About me and my therapy practice
After completion of a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, studying Petruska Clarkson's Five Relationship Model attained at Guildford College and then an MSc in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Surrey University my work is theoretically underpinned and informed by both philosophical and theoretical approaches embracing Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Phenomenological, Existential, Attachment theory and Postmodernism.
Attaining a Post Graduate Diploma at the University of London in Family and Couples Psychotherapy expanded my theoretical view to include systemic theory within a postmodern perspective.
I have extensive experience of supervising therapists in both 1:1 and group settings for both private practice and large organisations. I have supervised both clinical staff and therapists for over 20 years within the NHS and now privately.
I am familiar with the criteria of local universities and colleges to ensure that reports etc., are provided and discussed with the supervisee within the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy
Practice description
My practice is currently providing supervision remotely either by Zoom or telephone. Once we are able to move back into offices 1:1 face to face will also be offered.
I also offer group supervision for up to 4 supervisees per session.
I am experienced in providing support for supervisees in relaiton to Safeguarding issues and Risk Assessment in line with the BACP Ethical Framework and good practice.
Within supervision the space provided in the session is an opportunity for exploration into the client-therapist relationship in a safe and boundaried environment.
Underpinning practice is the Hawkins and Shohet model to enable exploration of all aspects of the therapeutic relationship.
My first session
Within the first session both the Supervisee and I can discuss the theoretical orientation underpinning the work and how we can establish an effective approach to working together that benefits both the client and therapist.
We also explore the expectations of the wider context such as organisations worked in and for students the college/university requirements.
The sessions are focused to support and meet the demands of the supervisee. The contract is discussed and agreed and any issues arising from this is explored.
It is recommended that supervisees attend regularly for a minimum of 1.5 hours per month and in line with the BACP Ethical Framework.
