About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychodynamic counsellor. I work with adults and young people from age 15 onwards. Sessions are 50 minutes longs and are held weekly at the same time. They can be open ended or short term in focus.
Working together we will focus on whatever feels important for you. We may make links between your early experiences and how you relate to people now, along with what is bringing you to counselling at this point in time.
We will try to understand patterns of behaviour and defences used within your relationships, that may be a barrier to reaching your full potential now.
The aim of our work together is to help you understand yourself and to identify what is most important to you. We can work to achieve specific goals, or to achieve a more general understanding of yourself and what makes you tick.
The most important aspect of our work is that sessions are led by you, so our exploration of current issues and emotions will be covered at a pace that feels right for you.
Practice description
Considering counselling is an important first step in the process of coming to terms with difficult experiences and emotions. I am here to work with you using a confidential, empathic, non-judgmental, and reflective approach.
This approach will enable us to explore together whatever issues are important to you and will support you with understanding and processing your feelings. My aim is to assist you with developing an awareness and understanding of yourself, your relationships, and your circumstances so that you can make changes that lead to a more fulfilling and satisfying life.
We will look at your current circumstances and relationships, but may also reflect on past experiences, as these can shape how we relate to others in the present. This process can be useful as a method to shed light on unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs about ourselves, that could be holding us back from reaching our potential. Becoming aware of these patterns gives us the power to move on and make positive changes, to fit in with our lives as we wish them to be now.
My first session
Whether you have had experience of counselling or are seeking it for the first time, it is important that you work with a counsellor you feel comfortable talking to. I therefore offer a free 15 minute consultation by telephone, before we meet for the first time, so that we can discuss how I can help you and you can ask questions.
In our first session we will spend some time getting to know each other so that we can decide whether we will be a good fit to work together. If you move forward to weekly sessions you can bring whatever is on your mind to each session and I will be led by what is important to you.
