About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome.
You might turn to therapy for a number of reasons: having faced a life-changing event, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief or low self- esteem. Perhaps you are struggling with simply functioning on a day- to- day basis, or feel overwhelmed by life in general and what it has to throw at you, leaving you without a sense of purpose or direction. Past life events can also prevent you from living a meaningful and successful life in the here- and- now.
At times it can feel as though no one really understands you or listens with genuine concern. This can leave you feeling isolated and disconnected from the people and world around you. You may experience feelings, thoughts and emotions or even physical symptoms for no obvious reason. This is where strictly confidential, professional help in the form of therapy could be the answer.
We all need a helping hand at times in order to overcome life's challenges, so you need not feel afraid to ask for help in doing so. You may feel pressure to be strong and not display any signs of weakness, whereas on the contrary, knowing when you need help is a sign of strength and self -knowledge, and is the start of a journey towards healing and improved well-being.
If you want to understand yourself better and make changes in your life, then I can help you achieve some clarity through increased self- awareness and insight into your own behaviours.
I have experience of appreciating and understanding the importance of visible and invisible differences, and people who come from diverse cultural backgrounds.
I have worked for 20 years in education, in schools, colleges, and in the wider community. I have 2 years' experience of bereavement support at Sue Ryder hospice in Headingley, Leeds, as well as working with anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD.
Practice description
As an integrative, relational therapist, the cornerstone of my practice is to establish a solid therapeutic relationship based on a humanistic approach and a Person- Centred Therapy foundation. I also draw on CBT techniques as well as psychodynamic, psychoanalytic and existential theories and therapeutic practices. The techniques and strategies incorporated into the therapy process will be tailored to suit your specific needs as my client, so I will not employ a one- size-fits- all approach.
You will be accepted for the complete person that you are, and listened to in a non-judgemental way with empathy, and genuineness. I can help you work through difficult emotions, thoughts and feelings by providing you with a safe space in which to openly explore and understand them. The process is a collaborative one and my role is to facilitate you to become an active participant in this journey towards wellness, autonomy and self - development-all at your own pace.
I am here to listen to you and offer guidance and support to enable you to heal and grow as a person. Your confidentiality will be strictly maintained at all times in accordance with the BACP ethical guidelines so you can rest assured that you will be seen by a fully qualified and regulated professional counsellor and psychotherapist.
