About me and my therapy practice

Hi! Since 2007 I am working with the English speaking community in Madrid where I am part of the Counselling Madrid team.

I work as a Person-centered & CBT Counsellor to help you deal with Anxiety, Depression, Excessive Worrying, Naming & Regulating Emotions, Personal Development and OCD.

My Counselling work covers short to medium term therapy which means you are most likely to work with me during 6 to 15 sessions.

As your Counsellor I am going to help you improve your understanding of your current situation and how to become more skilled at managing your challenges, one day at a time.

Practice description

At Counselling Madrid we know that living, studying and working abroad brings many challenges while support networks take time to develop. This explains why all our registered team members (Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Psychologists, Life Coaches and a Medical Doctor) have lived and studied abroad in different countries.

On a daily basis we help international students, children, teenagers, adults and families deal with a wide variety of issues, both in-person and online.

The most common issues our clients are dealing with are ADHD, Anger Management, Anxiety, Avoidance & Procrastination, Bereavement, Binge eating, Burnout, Chronic Worrying, Culture Adaptation and Culture Shock, Depression, Eco and Climate Anxiety, Ethics and Morality, Gender Identity Concerns, Guilt, Hope and Hopelessness, Identity Awareness, Infidelity, Insomnia, LGBTQ, Low Self-Esteem, Obsessions and Compulsions - OCD, Racial Identity, Relationship Conflicts, Resilience, Special Needs (f.e. Autism), Stress, Student Mental Health, Trauma and PTSD (EMDR treatment) and Unresolved Grief and Loss.

My first session

Counselling involves a series of formal sessions where the therapist and the client talk about the client’s issues and feelings. Even short term therapy typically involves 6 to 12 sessions. The sessions take place at a regular, agreed time and in a safe (online) private place where the client and therapist will not be overheard or interrupted.

Therapy may involve talking about life events, feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. The therapist will listen, encourage and empathise, but will also challenge to help the client to see their issues more clearly or in a different way.

Counselling is not about giving advice or opinions, nor is it a friendly chat with a friend. The therapist helps the client to understand themselves better and find their own solutions to resolve or cope with their situation.

During your (online) Evaluation session you have the opportunity to evaluate your current situation with your Counsellor. This is primarily done by the asking of some questions to help you clarify and describe your issues. Some clients have a detailed picture or idea of the area where they would like to achieve change, while other clients may be starting to explore difficult issues for the first time in their lives.

During the Evaluation session you also have the opportunity to fill out several questionnaires allowing us to evaluate levels of depression, anxiety, functioning & well-being.

Counselling Madrid Therapists abide by several codes of ethics such as the BACP, the UKCP and their Spanish equivalents, which means we are ethically committed to confidentiality. We encourage you to discuss any concerns you might have regarding confidentiality with your therapist.
