About me and my therapy practice
My training is in Adlerian therapy. This is a gentle and positive yet active approach to life's difficulties, where shifts in thinking about how to tackle your concerns can be achieved at your pace.
As you begin to feel comfortable and safe in sharing your thoughts and feelings, together we will be able to discover what and who might have shaped them, and, as a consequence of those influences, what have been the principle ideas that have led you through life.
One of the great outcomes of therapy is learning not to take so much on ourselves, recognising when we can let go of what is "someone else's stuff". Reclaiming ourselves from shame and blame can be powerful and you and I will work on identifying all your strengths.....even if you are not feeling strong and resilient. It takes courage to begin therapy so be kind to yourself and celebrate your first step.
Practice description
I will respond to your enquiry within 48 hours and can arrange to meet with you face-to-face in either Haverfordwest or Fishguard, or online (Zoom or WhatsApp video call) or through a plain audio telephone call, wherever you may be in the UK.
As a compassionate and thoughtful Adlerian therapist, I will respect your life experiences, holding and honouring whatever you choose to share. I can help you look at your early years so as to understand how you learnt to live - but you hold the key to any exploration and there will be no pressure.
With 19 years experience in voluntary sector projects, I am well-networked locally in Pembrokeshire and have contacts throughout the UK. I will use these to seek community-based avenues for you to explore between our sessions, if we both feel this will be helpful. This will complement our work, and will provide some extra encouragement and sustainable support when you are out in the world.
Psycho-education is a frequent feature in my sessions and from time to time I will offer reading links or videos relevant to our discussions; this can often lead to increased insight, as well as a sense of not being alone. If something has been researched and written about, you can be pretty sure you belong to a community of people who have experienced something similar.
I have a varied background encompassing community work for a national charity, body therapies and publishing and have lived in different parts of the UK.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute consultation prior to us beginning our work. This is a time to find out a little bit more about each other and also presents an opportunity to gather some personal details. You will be able to highlight what is happening for you at the moment and what you feel are your presenting issues, as well as any key experiences or health difficulties.
At this point, we can also identify the outcomes you would like from therapy and whether we feel a good therapeutic rapport can develop between us - it is vital for you to feel comfortable as you embark on this important journey.
